In their 2021 ParentEd talk, they explored the seven essential human instincts powering tenacity, the key personality trait that prepares kids for lifelong happiness and success. This year, they will focus on resilience, the conditioned process of competent functioning in the face of duress or adversity.

During their Oct. 12 ParentEd talk, Goldstein and Brooks will share strategies parents can employ to nurture a resilient mindset and behaviors in themselves and in their children.

About the speakers

Sam Goldstein, Ph.D., is a board-certified pediatric neuropsychologist and an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Since 1980, he has served as the clinical director of The Neurology, Learning and Behavior Center in Salt Lake City. He recently co-authored (with Robert B. Brooks, Ph.D.) the book “Tenacity in Children: Nurturing the Seven Instincts for Lifetime Success.”

Robert B. Brooks, Ph.D., is currently on the faculty of Harvard Medical School (part-time) and is the former director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital. He is board-certified in clinical psychology, as well as listed in the Council for the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He has authored, co-edited or co-authored 19 books as well as dozens of book chapters and peer-reviewed scientific articles.
