ACADEMY PARENTS COUNCIL (APC) MEETING, APRIL 1 (7 – 9 PM)

All are invited to Monday’s APC meeting, to be held at Greenfield Savings Bank (400 Main Street in Greenfield). Please enter the building that faces toward the parking lot (across from The People's Pint). The best arrival time is between 6:45 and 6:55 so we only have to monitor the "locked" door for a short time. Our preliminary agenda is here.

Hope to see many of you there!

REMINDER: GRANDPARENTS AND FAMILY FRIENDS DAY, APRIL 12

Invitations were sent for this event right before Spring Break, to those for whom we have names and addresses in our database. We request RSVPs by April 5 in order to be able to plan for lunch and other activities, and we look forward to seeing/meeting the special grandparents and other adults in our student’s lives that day.

Request for High Tea Fare for Grandparents and Family Friends Day

Rebekah Boyd (P'18, '19) is organizing the details for the Headmasters' Tea on Friday April 12, a signature afternoon event for grandparents and other special guests. She requests donations of "high tea" fare — small bite cookies, petit fours, cream puffs, lady fingers, shortbread, chocolate covered strawberries, pound cake, candied almonds, etc. Items should be labeled "TEA" and can be delivered that morning to Martha Tirk's office, or to the kitchen if perishable. Please label the bottom of any platters or dishes you'd like returned.

If you are able to offer such an item, please email Rebekah. Thank you!

Caring for our School

An impromptu, student-initiated effort today to clean up trash found in Grinnell field - many hands and big hearts make light work!
Mr. White finds the first sign of spring!
In the spirit of taking care of our school, the Community Service Council facilitated an all-school deep cleaning at the end of the day today, getting ready for spring.

BE A PART OF ONE ACADEMY FAMILY'S EFFORT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Jake Mayer and Regan Hall (parents of Avery ’19) are sponsoring a 19-year-old asylum seeker from Honduras. “DN”* will be living with the Hall-Mayer family from 6 months to a year once she is released from the detention center where she is currently held. A  GoFundMe campaign has been set up to provide for her commissary and telephone funds, and her transportation from the detention center to Massachusetts. If you are able to donate and/or share GoFundMe page, it is deeply appreciated. If you are interested in donating clothing/supplies/care packages or time/services, please email Regan Hall. For more information on how to be a sponsor, check out the Santa Fe Dreamers Project

*For her safety, we use initials only here.

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED

Families are needed to host international students attending The Academy next year. This is a life-changing experience for everyone! Our students from Spain, Mexico, Belgium, Thailand, Italy, China, Korea and elsewhere have enriched the school experience for students and staff. The students learn all about our way of living, and the essential ingredient is a loving host family. They come in all shapes and sizes -- with young children, older children, two separate homes, one home, working parents, lots of pets, no pets, vegetarian or not, near school or a bus ride away. The key is to open your hearts and welcome in a student.  Please consider this wonderful opportunity!
To speak to a host family about their experience, or the coordinator for the PAX student exchange, please email Jackie Walsh or call 413-625-9413.

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE - FRIDAY, APRIL 26

The Red Cross returns to campus for the spring Blood Drive at The Academy!

The Blood Drive will be held on Friday, April 26, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. Students will be bringing home donor forms, with the goal of every student finding at least one person to donate blood. Appointments can be made by filling out the donor form, or by calling the Main Office during regular business hours, or by visiting the Red Cross Blood Drive appointment page and entering our zip code. Baked goods for donors are also a high priority, so there are ways for everyone to lend a hand. We appreciate in advance your support of this important service event!  Not only does collecting blood save lives, but with enough donations, also provides college scholarships for our seniors.

Please contact Jen Mitchell or Nora Bates Zale with any questions.

MONTREAL TRIP

During Spring Break, a delightful group of French students embarked on a trip to Montreal. They stayed in Old Montreal, visited the historic sites around them including the Basilica Notre Dame for both a guided tour and a special evening lightshow. They went swimming in a pool in the Olympic Park, visited the Planetarium where they listened to a show in French on the Aurora Borealis, and they ate their way through Montreal's delicious food options. Much fun was had by all, and everyone practiced their French. We are already looking forward to going back one day! Special thanks to Mme Mauri for organizing this wonderful trip, and to chaperones Riqi Kosovske, Stan Langston and Annabelle Mauri for their kind and active support!
