GFI 3002: Upper-Level Seminar
Tuesday & Thursday, 4:45-6:00 PM
Instructor: Dr. Mya Price
The structure and challenges of the U.S. food industry. Focus on independent restaurants and their role in the broader agricultural and economic landscape. The impact of climate change on food production, supply chains, and the restaurant industry.
GFI 3005: Systems Thinking for Sustainable Agrifood Systems Transformation
Wednesday, 12:45-3:15 PM
Instructor: Dr. Sydney Pryor
Want to explore how food and agriculture contribute to, and are impacted by, our society’s most pressing challenges? Learn how to apply a systems thinking approach to evaluate our agrifood systems and their influence on human and planetary health.
GFI 3006: Culinary Diplomacy
Tuesday, 12:45-3:15 PM
Instructor: Sam Chapple-Sokol
Introduction to culinary diplomacy and its power to change the course of diplomatic history, national economies, and personal relationships. Learn how meals can create cross-cultural understanding through both academic and practical perspectives.

Our food system is paradoxically plagued by hunger amidst overproduction. Examination of how food moves from farm to plate, unveiling impacts on human health, the environment, and socioeconomic disparities along the way.
GFI 3095: Food Leadership Capstone
Monday & Wednesday, 4:45-6:00 PM
Instructor: Dr. Mya Price
Through a concentrated capstone topic, students develop collaborative leadership skills and drive decisive action to create sustainable, equitable solutions for the future of our food systems. Prerequisites: completion of all other coursework required for the minor.

Sustainable Farming & Development Trip with Green Communities in Costa Rica |
|
|
| January 5-11, 2024
Interested in learning about sustainable food systems and development in Costa Rica? Apply for GW Alternative Breaks and spend a week transforming conventional coffee farms into organic coffee farms. Alongside our long-term community partner, Green Communities, you will harvest organic coffee, interact with local farmers and youth, and discuss sustainable development and regenerative agriculture. For this service-learning experience, you can apply to be a participant or trip leader. Follow @gwaltbreaks or email altbreaks@email.gwu.edu for more information. All service is performed in mutually beneficial partnerships with community-based organizations and, in doing so, fosters a Serve, Learn, Discover mentality.
