President Price with several undergraduate and graduate veteran students

President Price Luncheon with Student Veterans Across Campus

In April, President Price and Vice Provost McMahon met with several Duke student veterans to learn more about their military experiences, and how their background has shaped their perspective and path at Duke.

This luncheon included both graduate and undergraduate student veterans from a variety of schools (i.e., Fuqua, Trinity, Medicine, PT/OT, Law). Students had the opportunity to discuss their overall military service and how their experiences have shaped their interests, attitudes, and motivations in life as well as higher education. Students also shared some of the difficulties and conveniences of transitioning to Duke as a veteran.
Following the discussion on perspectives, President Price asked what Duke at large could do to better assist veteran students as they transition into, and succeed at, Duke. This led to discussions about undergraduate and graduate community building, as well as financial assistance.
President Price recognized the unique perspectives as well as the incredible strengths each military-affiliated student brings to the table, and he shared how he hopes Duke will continue expanding upon advocacy of both current and prospective military students.

OSV Transition Survey

The Office of Student Veterans is surveying Duke's military-affiliated community to better understand how our community transitions to, and is a part of, the broader Duke community. This survey will allow us to understand current student perspectives and make Duke a more welcoming and inclusive community in the future.
It is important to note that your responses are confidential and no individually identifiable information will be shared. The Student Affairs Office of Assessment team will work on this project and report the information in a combined, aggregate format to the Office of Student Veterans.
A unique link was sent directly to your email on 28 April 2024. The survey has been extended to remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday, 17 May. If you do not receive the direct link or have any questions about the survey, please reach out to our office.

GA Reed

Thank You and Congrats

The Office of Student Veterans also wanted to give a big shout-out to our own graduating GA, Beautiful Reed. Beautiful has been working with our office since the fall of 2022, and she has made a lasting impact on the work we do. From planning events to writing newsletters to advocating on behalf of the military-affiliated community, she's done a little bit of everything in her time with OSV.
Beautiful is graduating this weekend from the Doctor of Phyiscal Therapy program, and plans to return back home to Washington to practice. Our office will miss her dearly, but we're so excited to see what she can accomplish on her next journey. Thanks, Beautiful!

Graduation Cords

If you are graduating and would like to request a graduation cord, please email the Office of Student Veterans. Remote students can send us an address where they would like your cord mailed. For local students, we will work with you to coordinate another time on campus to give you your cord.
