COVID-19 update for families: March 25, 2020

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve, we know there are ongoing questions about the school closure and our plans for distance learning. We are committed to keeping you up-to-date during this time.
Governor's executive orders
Today, Governor Tim Walz issued Executive Order 20-20 calling on Minnesotans to stay home, except for essential needs like food, medicine and other essential services. His order begins at 11:59 p.m. Friday and continues through Friday, April 10. He also issued Executive Order 20-19 requiring all Minnesota schools to begin providing distance learning to students beginning Monday, March 30 and continuing through at least April 30. At this time, we are preparing for students to return to our school buildings on Tuesday, May 5 at the earliest. Of course, this timeline could change.
This order does not change plans to distribute and pick up learning materials from school. Please know that picking up learning materials is an essential activity, and is not prohibited under the governor's stay-at-home order.
Distance learning
Our staff has been preparing for distance learning these last two weeks, and we are ready to teach our students next week. You will receive details about your school's distance learning plan from your principal today or tomorrow.
Technology and learning materials
Schools have communicated with families about the distribution of learning materials and technology needs. We will continue to work to get materials to all students so that distance learning can begin. Some technology solutions may not be in place until next week. Remember, picking up learning materials is an essential activity, and is not prohibited under the governor's stay-at-home order.
Meals
We will continue to provide free meals to any student, regardless of their family's ability to pay. Visit the Roseville Food Map to find a site near you. Information about free meals in English, Spanish, Karen, Amharic, Somali, Hmong, Nepali and Oromo.
Child care for emergency and healthcare workers
We will continue to provide child care for elementary-age children of critical workers, which includes educators providing school-age care, grocery workers, and medical and other emergency personnel. Details about child care.
Talking with students about COVID-19
The National Association of School Psychologists has published Talking to Children About COVID-19: A Parent Resource. It contains excellent information for families. This is a difficult time for students, families and staff. There are resources available if you need help.
