University Ministry: From Gray to Glow
As the rain settles over San Francisco and the winter chill begins to weave its way through campus, we find ourselves entering a season of both challenge and comfort. The gray skies and soaked sidewalks of Lone Mountain remind us that this time of year carries its own rhythm, one that asks us to slow down, take stock, and care for ourselves with a little more intention. With finals approaching, many of us are balancing that familiar mix of anticipation and stress, quietly counting down the days until our last exam is submitted and our backpacks can finally take a well-deserved rest.
At the same time, this colder weather nudges us toward thoughts of home, whether that means traveling across states, across the Bay, or simply settling into a familiar routine surrounded by the people who know us best. The holidays offer a chance to reconnect, recharge, and reflect on the moments that have shaped us over the semester. For some, it’s an eager return to family traditions, festive meals, and warm gatherings; for others, it may be a quieter, more personal time of rest and re-centering. No matter what “home” looks like for each of us, this season invites us to open our hearts to gratitude and connection.
As incense rises from our chapels and campus lights glow against the rain, University Ministry hopes to be a space of warmth in this busy stretch. Whether you’re stopping by to study, pray, take a breather, or simply find community, know that you are always welcome here. Finals may test our endurance, but they also remind us of how far we’ve come. And in the midst of cold mornings and long nights, we hope you find small pockets of peace, perhaps in a cup of something warm, a conversation with a friend, or a moment of quiet reflection between assignments.
Wherever this season takes you, we wish you calm in the rush, courage in the challenges, and comfort in the company of those you love. As we prepare to wrap up the semester and step into the holidays, may the rain be a gentle reminder that renewal is on the way and that brighter days always follow.

International Education Week |
Monday, Nov. 17–Sunday, Nov. 23
International Education Week (IEW) is a nationwide celebration of international education and exchange. Join us from Nov. 17–23, in fostering a deeper cultural understanding within our community and cultivating an inclusive worldview.
The theme of IEW 2025 is Lanterns of Harmony: Lighting the Path Across Cultures, a celebration of the connections that illuminate our shared humanity through education, dialogue, and cultural exchange. This year’s events invite us to reflect on the many ways USF students, staff, and faculty light the way for one another through curiosity, collaboration, and global engagement.
