“It’s going to dramatically increase the number of students we can teach in the space,” said Murray, medical director of the Standardized Patient Center at KU School of Medicine-Wichita.

Another body of knowledge: Virtual headsets enhance anatomy education |
“I’m going to remove the liver,” said fourth-year medical student Wyel Halimeh to the half-dozen or so first- and second-year medical students viewing the procedure.
In reality, the cadaver was nowhere to be seen. Using virtual reality technology and head-mounted devices, the students were observing the procedure on a digital body. This year, KU School of Medicine-Wichita joined the growing number of medical schools using VR headsets to augment anatomy studies.

“God works in mysterious ways,” said Ernst recently in an interview from Columbus, Nebraska, where he shadowed the town’s only surgeon as a high school kid and later established a practice after completing his surgery residency with KU School of Medicine-Wichita.
