Dr. Andrew Hamilton Appointed
Vice Provost at Texas State University
Dr. Andrew Hamilton, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, has announced his departure from UNC Greensboro effective July 11, 2025, to accept the position of Vice Provost and Professor of Philosophy at Texas State University.
Since joining UNC Greensboro in 2019 as Associate Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Hamilton has brought visionary, data-informed leadership to every facet of undergraduate education. In this dual role, and later as Associate Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, he led transformative efforts across academic policy, curriculum design, and student-support initiatives.
Dr. Hamilton shares, “It is said that smooth seas never made a skilled sailor. This role is difficult for me to leave because I have been shaped so much by its challenges and triumphs. It has been a true joy to work with the entire UNCG community to make our university the kind of institution where students from all backgrounds can flourish.”
During his tenure, Dr. Hamilton played a pivotal role in shaping the university’s strategic direction. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Minerva Academic Curriculum (MAC), assisted in the drafting of UNCG’s strategic plan, and oversaw major policy updates, including revisions to the faculty workload policy in alignment with UNC System mandates. His commitment to curricular innovation and responsiveness to evolving student needs have left a lasting impact on academic planning at UNCG.
A champion of data-driven decision-making, Dr. Hamilton was instrumental in UNCG’s development of institutional performance dashboards and key metrics that now serve as foundational tools for academic planning and resource allocation. Dr. Hamilton also prioritized student success through high-impact initiatives. These included expanding emergency rescue grants, strengthening STEM mentorship, and enhancing first-year academic outcomes. His work has been critical in reversing pandemic-related declines in student retention, with the 2024 first-year cohort on track to reach near-record-high retention levels.
“Throughout his tenure, Dr. Hamilton has been a respected colleague, a dedicated advocate for students, and a collaborative leader whose contributions have enriched our academic community and strengthened the foundation of undergraduate education,” said Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Dr. Alan Boyette. “His unwavering dedication, strategic insight, and collaborative approach have not only transformed key initiatives but have also inspired faculty and students alike.”
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Hamilton on his new appointment. We extend our gratitude for his exceptional service to UNC Greensboro and wish him continued success in this exciting new chapter at Texas State University.
