As we round out 2025 and look to finish the semester strong, we hope you'll join us for a moment in peeking toward 2026, where many good things await. Notably, a robust portfolio of OEL-funded research and internship opportunities has just gone live—chances to bridge your academic studies to your professional aspirations while deploying your many good gifts toward the wellbeing of others. Enjoy, as well, the chance to get to know our dear colleague Molly Simpson, who splits time between the OEL and Student Life, helping bridge our campus to the needs of our community partners around Waco. And of course, don't miss our newsletter crowd favorite: the best books, articles, music, films, and podcasts we enjoyed in 2025, which might enrich your own holiday season as you enjoy a bit of downtime.
Finally, I end with a bittersweet word that Dr. Anna Beaudry, our beloved assistant director of major fellowships and awards, will be leaving us in January for an exciting new professional opportunity. Thank you, Dr. Beaudry, on behalf of our students, the OEL team, and our many colleagues, for the good ways you've served. Godspeed for the journey ahead!
Cheers,

Fulbright Dispatch: Emily O'Kief ('24) |
Emily O'Kief (B.A. '24, University Scholars major, French minor) shares her experience on a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) award to Serbia from 2024-2025.
"Due to the current political situation in Serbia, I’ve come to know the Serbian people and their country in a way that would have been impossible otherwise. In witnessing firsthand the way people across the country have come together to fight governmental corruption and urge their leaders to better protect and invest in their constituents, I’ve learned about the resiliency and values of those around me. Rather than discussing the complexities of English verb tenses, my days are now filled with conversations with locals about the future of their country, which, oftentimes, allows me to learn about their memories of the past."
