COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret
The Animal Rights Coalition is proud to bring COWSPIRACY to Minnesota.

COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret is a groundbreaking environmental documentary that follows an intrepid filmmaker as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today, and investigates why the world's leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it. As eye-opening as Blackfish and as inspiring as An Inconvenient Truth, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact factory farming has on our planet.

See a preview of the film and then order your tickets now as they will sell quickly! You can also see a clip from the movie on the ticket order site. Truly, this event is not to be missed. It's the environmental film that environmental organizations don't want you to see. Screening is on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:30 pm at the Lagoon Cinema, 1320 Lagoon Ave. in Minneapolis.
Sky's Challenge
Sky Larson has been volunteering with ARC since she was seven years old. It runs in the family as Sky is the daughter of long-time ARC volunteer Ronda Dietzler. Most recently, Sky and Ronda led a Cuddle Coats prep party to get donated furs ready to go to wildlife rehabs. Ronda and Sky have also rescued many animals and given them a home.

Sky may be small in stature, but she has a huge heart. Don't let her size or age fool you – she's passionate about animal rights. When Sky arrived to prep furs, she brought us a surprise donation of $40 that she raised with an Animal Rights stand in her yard.

Never one to think small, Sky wants to challenge the grownups out there to support the Animal Rights Coalition too! Let Sky inspire YOU to give today. Use this giving link and put "Sky's Challenge" in the "Dedicate This Donation" field so we can let her know how awesome she is and how many people she's inspired.

Vegan Food Sampling a Hit at the Minneapolis Farmer's Market
ARC hosted a food sampling at the Minneapolis Farmer's Market, the largest farmer's marker in the Upper Midwest. We sampled summer favorites vegan ice cream bites and chocolate almond milk. This was a great outreach event to a very receptive audience. We also held a Pop-Up Shop at Ethique Nouveau for the Herbivorous Butcher to introduce people to their artisan meatless "meats" that have taken the Farmer's Market by storm. Thanks to the Herbivorous Butcher for donating 10% of their sales from this event to ARC. Add tabling at the Paul McCartney concert, vegan grocery shopping tours at the Wedge and Mississippi Market, a "Help, I'm Going Vegan" workshop, a potluck in the park, and a dine-out for new vegans at Ginger Hop, and August was a very busy month for vegan outreach.

We're always looking for new locations at which to do food samplings. We can come to your workplace, employee health fair, church, civic club meeting, etc. Email Chelsea if you have a good location to suggest for a free food sampling.

Let's Go Meet Some Chickens!
ARC's VegKins group for parents raising vegan children will tour Chicken Run Rescue in Minneapolis on Saturday, September 27 with the first tour from noon to 1:00 pm and the second tour from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. This will be a great opportunity for kids to spend quality time with the residents of Chicken Run Rescue. These chickens are refugees from backyard farming, cockfighting, and grade school hatching projects, among other types of exploitation. The fine folks at CRR give the chickens the love and care they need and deserve, and find them homes where they will be loved as family, not food. Come on out and meet these great birds!

RSVP on the VegKins CRR Tour Facebook event page and note how many adults+kids would like to come to the tour. Shelly Bell, VegKins Parent Coordinator, will email you back with more details.

In Memoriam
Brad Woodard, former KARE-11 reporter in the Twin Cities passed away this past July. Brad was a veteran investigative reporter who won many national awards for exposing those who abused or neglected animals.

ARC worked with Brad many times and he was instrumental in helping to shut down the University of Minnesota dog labs and expose the dealers that the University was buying from. Acting on documents and information supplied by ARC, Brad spent three months in 1994 investigating how most of the dogs and cats used at the University were obtained. Brad recorded filthy, overcrowded kennels, dogs yelping in pain after being dragged along the ground and slammed into the side of a truck, and a University animal dealer admitting on camera that he was violating the Animal Welfare Act. The most heartbreaking images were filmed at the gun and dog auction in Joplin, Missouri, the last stop before the laboratory door for many animals. Brad won a well deserved Genesis award for this piece.
