From the Office of Faculty Affairs

This message is intended for all temporary (lecturer) faculty.

Dear Sac State Faculty Lecturer Employees,
As you may be aware, Sacramento State went live with the Common Human Resource System (CHRS) in March 2025 as part of the CSU-Systemwide CHRS project. Many of you may have already benefited from the changes as a result of this project, such as an increase in self-service options and a more unified experience across campus. Please note, this notice is not an offer of employment. Rather, Academic Affairs and the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) would like to highlight some other changes that will impact lecturer appointments moving forward.
Key Changes Affecting Faculty Appointments:
  • New Appointment Module: The CHRS Temporary Academic Employment (TAE) Module will replace the way we currently generate appointment notifications (contracts) in PeopleSoft.
  • Streamlined Workflow: The TAE module includes a built-in approval workflow within the system, eliminating the need for Adobe Sign for many transactions. This streamlined process aims to reduce delays and improve flexibility by allowing revisions and edits to appointments without the need to cancel or restart the process.
  • System-Generated Appointment Notifications: The system will automatically generate appointment notifications, replacing our current “Temp faculty contracts”. These notifications follow a CSU-wide template and the language on each notification varies for the different job classifications and pay plans. You will find campus-specific information provided on a separate web page linked from the appointment notification.
  • Faculty Acknowledgement: Faculty will no longer sign appointment notifications in Adobe Sign or hard-copy. Instead, faculty will acknowledge receipt of their appointment notification by reviewing it within the CHRS self-service portal. Faculty will receive an email notice when their appointment notification is available for review in CHRS.
Resources and Support:

We understand that these changes will require adjustments. We are committed to providing comprehensive support to departments and faculty throughout this transition. The CHRS Knowledge Base includes an article on how to view and acknowledge your appointment notification in the system.
If you have concerns about the above information, please do not hesitate to contact OFA at facultyaffairs@csus.edu.
If you have questions or concerns about your specific appointment details in your department, please contact your department chair or college for assistance.
