Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
Based on the overwhelming positive feedback of the past cohort, we have decided to continue our partnership with Association of College and University Educator (ACUE) in offering our faculty the opportunity to participate in their Effective Teaching Practices course for the 2024-25 academic year. This course equips faculty with evidence-based teaching practices that are proven through independently validated research to improve student achievement and close equity gaps. Topics include “Developing equitable grading practices” and “Preparing an inclusive syllabus.”
ACUE follows a cohort model for this 25-week course, with all participants beginning on September 9, 2024, and ending on April 27, 2025, with a small grace period that follows. The course is fully online with content delivered in an asynchronous and video-rich format facilitated by ACUE. To celebrate the accomplishments of those who complete the program, we will hold a Pinning Ceremony on May 12, 2025 at noon.

| Suggested Syllabus Statements for Student Success
As you prepare your syllabus for the Fall, please consider these tips from your partners in Student Services.
Counseling and Psychological Services
Consider adding a statement like this to support students’ physical and mental health:
If you find yourself struggling with your physical or mental health this semester, please feel free to approach me. I try to be flexible and accommodating. You may also contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which provides confidential services at no cost to Seton Hall students. Call (973)761-9500 or visit their website for more information. (adapted from Northwestern University)
Disability Support Services
Include a statement like the below to ensure students with accommodations receive the support they need:
If you have accommodations through Disability Support Services (DSS), please provide me with your letter describing those accommodations and schedule a time that we may review your accommodations for this class. If you believe that you need accommodations but do not have a letter from DSS, please meet with DSS and obtain the letter before discussing the accommodations with me. Per University policy, only DSS approved accommodations are provided in this class.
Dean of Students Office, consider referring students to the Class Absence Notification procedure as part of your Attendance Policy, including the FAQs for Students and Faculty, to ensure clarity and understanding.
