Starting the New Year with Fresh Rooms

NewRooms23
While the office was closed over the holidays, we finished putting our tutoring rooms back together. Volunteers painted the rooms during the United Way Day of Caring in September, and now, thanks to a generous donor, we put new bulletin boards, maps, and whiteboards in each room.
Each tutoring room is fresh and ready for the new year!

Countdown to Wordplay:
Three Months to Go!
Registration is underway, and we have 14 teams locked in to play this March. We are limiting Wordplay 2023 participation to 40 teams. Be sure to save your spot early!
Wordplay is a team-based trivia competition for people who love words, vocabulary, pop culture, history, literature, and showing off their smarts. Each team is comprised of three members. The audience is invited to play along and cheer for their favorite team!
Funds raised through Wordplay support adult learners as they achieve their educational goals. Team sponsorship rates start at $600. Teams can pay online, send a check, or use crowdsourcing to raise their fees. Sponsors can donate in-kind goods of the same value in place of their team fee. Schools, churches, and nonprofits who register their fundraising pages before February 14 will receive a $50 donation from the LVCA Board to get their fundraising started!

Mid-Year Highlights
We are officially halfway through our fiscal year. It was a busy summer and fall, enrolling new students and training new tutors. Like most businesses and organizations, the recovery from the pandemic has been slow. We estimate that by the end of June, we will be back to 85% of our pre-pandemic numbers of students and tutors. Our Citizenship numbers have grown significantly, and more than twice the number of students will have success with their Citizenship interviews as in the pre-pandemic year. Seeing so many new faces around the office makes us optimistic about the year ahead!
  • 63 New Students Enrolled
  • 51 New Tutors Trained
  • 30 Current & Recent Former Students Passed their Citizenship Interviews
Thank you to everyone who has donated time, talent, and funds to help our programs thrive this fiscal year. Financial gifts are appreciated throughout the year to ensure our students can continue to receive the services they need to succeed.
