Denison is defined by the power of relationships, so it should come as no surprise that the alumni engagement strategic plan prioritizes strengthening the college’s strong foundation of community. We are creating more direct pathways to foster community through affinity groups, celebrating the momentous lifetime events of alums, and continuing to build upon and reimagine cherished traditions that already bring us together. Join us for Denison’s new alumni-centered homecoming experience. In addition to a lively tailgate and a special 100th-anniversary concert in Swasey Chapel, Big Red Weekend presents a meaningful opportunity for students and alums to connect over common interests, including shared affinities, the arts, athletics, and academics. Additional details and registration will be available this summer. 

How were you involved as a student? Maybe you were a singer, an athlete, a fraternity brother, or a sorority sister. Would you like to meet Denisonians who share your interests? We are helping Denisonians connect over these common bonds through special events for alumni affinity groups, dedicated reunions over Big Red Weekend, and more.

“Each spring, I look forward to reuniting with my Phi Gamma Delta brothers at Denison,” says Jim Shaler ’86. “Though FIJI is no longer an active student group, it brings me great joy to say that our annual pig roast tradition continues. We receive great support from the Alumni & Family Engagement team in managing event details and logistics, as well as Denison-branded giveaways. I’m sure many other groups could have similar enjoyable experiences like our FIJI brothers.”

A triumphant farewell to a remarkable class

The Class of 2024 entered college during the height of a global pandemic. Four years later, this collection of impressive individuals emerged stronger together, rejoicing in their academic achievements, competitive excellence, artistic talents, and lifelong friendships.

Learning grand strategy from a master

In his former career as a U.S. Army officer and military strategist, Scott Smitson routinely wrestled with complicated issues that he appropriately called “wicked.” He applies his experiences from the Pentagon, the Middle East, and Latin America to the classroom, where he now teaches Denison students the theory and practice of strategy. It is a unique experience for a liberal arts student to learn from an academic with a full military career behind them. Read more about what Smitson calls “scholarship with impact.”

Did you say “I do” in Swasey Chapel? As we celebrate the chapel’s 100th anniversary all year long, we want to celebrate a Swasey Sweethearts couple with the sweetest surprise — a vow renewal ceremony back where it all began along with accommodations and dinner at the Granville Inn. Simply share a photo from your special day and complete an entry form to enter. Entries will be accepted until September 17.
