IGNATIAN TEACH-IN FOR JUSTICE AND CROSSES ON BREBEUF'S FRONT LAWN TO THE Brebeuf Jesuit parent conversation series SCHEDULE

As families drive onto the Brebeuf Jesuit campus November 11-15, they will notice memorial crosses on the lawn representing the Jesuit martyrs who died fighting political oppression during the Salvadoran Civil War. These Jesuits were faculty members and administrators at the University of Central America when they were martyred on November 16, 1989.
Brebeuf Jesuit will also honor Ignatian values by sending one of the largest high school delegations – a group of more than 30 students and teachers — to the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice event in Washington, D.C., where Jesuit educators and students will gather to discuss important issues of social reform.
Brebeuf community members are invited to a special prayer service in the Brebeuf Jesuit Chapel with our student and faculty Ignatian Teach-In representatives at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, before our representatives depart at noon for Washington, D.C. Our representatives will return late Monday, November 14, after spending a day on Capitol Hill.

Student Spotlight

SARAH ANGLEN
Loves About Brebeuf
I love the sense of community that you feel at Brebeuf. Everyone smiles and greets each other every single day. If you are down, there is always someone to make you smile. You can feel the love of everyone in the hallways.
Favorite Class
My favorite class at Brebeuf has been Honors Anatomy with Mrs. McCarter. She always had fun labs that helped learn the material and the actual dissections of organs helped with memorizing and learning the material.
Future Plans
My top choice is to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City for fashion business and merchandising. If not FIT, another school that has a good fashion program for undergraduate. Eventually, I want to live in a city working in the fashion industry.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
I played volleyball the first two years of high school and then I have been managing the boys soccer teams since my junior year. I had a job last semester working at Roselli’s Pizza.
Random Fact
I spent my summer living in New York City with my older sister and had an internship at Model Management Group.
What has been your favorite Brebeuf experience or most memorable moment so far?
My favorite moment at Brebeuf has been being apart of the sports program because each person gets an intense amount of love and support and the sense of family you build with your teammates last long after the season is over.
What do you think of…
Apple getting rid of the headphone jack on the new iPhone?
I think that it's an interestingly different addition to the new iPhone and that people are freaking out because it isn’t what they are used too, but I think that it’s innovative and people will warm up to the idea.

College Counseling News

Evening with Indiana Colleges
Monday, November 14
6:30-8:40 p.m.
Twenty-one Indiana colleges and universities will participate. The format will be the same as our earlier Evening with Colleges (out-of-state colleges) on September 28. Each school will be assigned a classroom and will offer three presentations across the evening. There will be breaks between presentation periods when families can visit with any of the colleges in their rooms. All grade levels are welcome!  This is a great opportunity to connect with the admission officer at each school who is assigned to Brebeuf Jesuit (first reader and first decision-maker for our applications).
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your college counselor.
Colleges attending Evening with Indiana Colleges include:
Ball State University, Butler University, DePauw University, Earlham College, Franklin College, Hanover College, Holy Cross College at Notre Dame, Indiana State University, Indiana University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Manchester University, Marian University, Purdue University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saint Mary’s College – Notre Dame, University of Evansville, University of Indianapolis, University of Notre Dame, University of Southern Indiana, Valparaiso University and Wabash College.
Mandatory PreACT for Sophomores
The PreACT will be administered to all sophomores on Friday, November 18. All sophomores should report to their testing location promptly at 8:10 a.m. The PreACT is a helpful tool for college counselors and is one of the students’ first indications of standard testing performance and preferences. For information on this assessment, please click here.
Please note – all students testing with extended time should bring their lunch on the day of the PreACT.

Emotional Problem Solving Skills for Adolescents

Assistant Principal Stephanie Medcalfe presented to all mothers in attendance at the November 2 Mothers Association Meeting. Her presentation, “Emotional Problem Solving Skills For Adolescents” had a profound effect on those in attendance. Due to all of the great feedback and details in the presentation, we wanted to share it with all in the Brebeuf Jesuit community who might be interested in learning more about this important topic.
To access the presentation, please click here
If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Medcalfe, Assistant Principal at smedcalfe@brebeuf.org.

Congratulations to Liam Murphy '20!

Liam Murphy '20 achieved the rank of Eagle Scout this Fall in Troop 443 of St. Matthew Parish.
Liam's project was the installation of an irrigation system for the landscaped areas immediately surrounding St. Matthew Parish.
Liam is the fourth Eagle Scout in the family, following in the footsteps of his three older brothers.

Brebeuf Hosts Sportmanship Summit

Brebeuf Jesuit hosted the Circle City Conference Sportsmanship Summit on November 3.
Featured speakers included Bobby Cox of the IHSAA, Whitey Kapsalis, author of "To Chase a Dream," and Kacey Oiness of St. Vincent Sports Performance.
Students from all members schools (Bishop Chatard, Guerin Catholic, Heritage Christian, and Roncalli) joined Brebeuf students for presentations, small group activities and reflection.

Blood Drive

Brebeuf Jesuit's annual blood drive in support of the Indiana Blood Center will be held Tuesday, November 8 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Members of the community are welcome to come in and donate!

College Counseling Assistant Update

Please welcome Kelly Shank as the new college counseling assistant.  Ms. Shank, a graduate of Indiana University, will be familiar to Brebeuf students and parents as she is the current receptionist at the front desk in the Main Lobby.  She will continue in that role as well for now.  Robin Lusk, former college counseling assistant, left to pursue new opportunities and we wish her the best.

#BrebeufDrives

For our next #BrebeufDrive we will be coordinating our annual Help for the Holidays collection for the Catholic Charities Christmas Store. This is an opportunity for the Brebeuf community to actively be men and women for others. While unifying with the school through a collaborative effort, we are also strengthening a bond to a community in need of assistance.
Every year during the holiday season, Catholic Charities sponsors The Christmas Store. More than 700 needy families will shop for Christmas gifts and clothing for their children. Donations of time, gifts and money help bring a brighter Christmas season for these families in need. In many cases, the gifts provided by the Christmas Store will be the ONLY Christmas items these families will receive. The results of these drives will provide gifts to a vast number of individuals and families, bringing additional joy for the holiday season.

Disability Awareness Day

Freshman Disability Awareness Day is an annual event in which members of the freshman class get the opportunity to experience what life would be like with a disability. Each year, Occupational Therapy students from the University of Indianapolis come to Brebeuf to facilitate this event.
Held in the Auditorium, the event will feature several stations, each highlighting a disability or impairment commonly seen in Occupational Therapy.  Freshmen will participate in an activity at each station that highlights adaptive and compensative methods for completing day-to-day activities while living with disabilities including paraplegia, amputation, blindness, arthritis, loss of sensation, perceptual motor deficits, and more.
Disability Awareness Day will take place next Friday, November 4, at 8:15 a.m. in the Auditorium.
