Building Healthy Habits: MEND Program in Hardeman County |
Hardeman County is the first Be More Tennessee county to deliver a family healthy weight program—thanks to the efforts of Gary Rodgers, Extension Agent and County Director! Since December 2024, Hardeman County Extension has been helping families stay active and eat healthier through the MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, … Do it!) program, an evidence-based program recognized by CDC. With enthusiastic participation from both students and parents, the program is now gearing up for a second cohort of MEND.

Building Stronger Communities Through Physical Activity |
|
|
Community-based social support programs—like walking groups, exercise buddy systems, and group fitness challenges—are proven strategies to help individuals stay active and healthy. These initiatives foster accountability, motivation, and a sense of belonging, making physical activity more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
According to the County Health Rankings, such programs are effective in improving physical activity levels and overall health outcomes. They are especially beneficial in creating inclusive environments that encourage participation across diverse communities.
