Villanova University Assumes Ownership of Cabrini Campus
|
From the Media Room: Villanova University officially assumed ownership of Cabrini University’s 112-acre campus in Radnor, Pa., as of Friday, June 28.
Villanova and Cabrini, along with the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—who founded Cabrini University—announced the final agreement between the institutions in November 2023, which called for Villanova to assume ownership of the Cabrini campus after the conclusion of the 2023-24 academic year. The transaction was completed Friday, June 28 after the necessary regulatory and other approvals.
“I would again like to thank President Helen Drinan, the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the entire Cabrini community for entrusting us with the Cabrini campus and legacy,” said University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD. “Earlier this month, I celebrated the final Mass at Cabrini University. It was a bittersweet but befitting ending—celebrating the rich history and impact Cabrini University has had over the past 67 years. We at Villanova are honored and humbled to be the new stewards of the Cabrini legacy and its beautiful campus.”
In tribute to the Cabrini legacy, the campus will be called the “Villanova University Cabrini Campus.” Villanova will also preserve the overarching legacy and mission of Mother Cabrini and Cabrini University through a variety of initiatives. While plans are still being finalized, Villanova intends to maintain the current usage and functionality of the Cabrini campus buildings. To facilitate the necessary work to incorporate and utilize the campus for the benefit of students, faculty, staff and alumni, the majority of the Cabrini campus will close July 1 with a forecasted reopening in Fall 2026.

Accelerating Excellence: Behind NovaRacing’s Resurgence |
From the Villanova Media Room: For the members of Villanova University’s NovaRacing team, the thrill of the race was more than just crossing the finish line. It was the culmination of months of meticulous planning, late nights in the lab and an unwavering determination to learn from past mistakes.
A year after receiving a disappointing DNF (Did Not Finish) at the 2023 Formula SAE competition, NovaRacing’s dedicated crew of students from across the University rallied together to design and construct a racecar that secured an impressive ninth place overall finish out of 120 international teams at the annual competition in Michigan in May.

From Scientific American: As the climate warms, mangroves are migrating farther poleward, transforming the coast as they go. “I think these places are going to be a matrix of both salt marshes and mangroves,” says Samantha Chapman, a biology professor at Villanova University. But in some areas, she says, it might be a “total transition.”

From the Philadelphia Inquirer: Villanova University officially assumed ownership of Cabrini University’s campus in Radnor Friday and announced it will be closed for at least two years for renovations.
The 112-acre campus that Villanova purchased will reopen in fall 2026 at the earliest, the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, president of Villanova, said in a message to the Villanova community.
The renovation work will make the campus “feel like a natural extension of Villanova,” he wrote, with the goal of making “enhancements to the property to renew its use as an idyllic university campus.”

From Sports Illustrated: "A class-action lawsuit that began in 2015 reached a conclusion—sort of—on Thursday when a jury ruled that the NFL violated antitrust law in requiring purchasers of its out-of-market Sunday Ticket package to pay a premium price for all games, rather than a customizable package of games (with customizable pricing). The jury awarded the plaintiffs over $4.7 billion, which will be 'trebled' (tripled to) more than $14 billion as per antitrust law and damages."... Andrew Brandt is the Executive Director of the Jeffrey S. Moorad Center for the Study of Sports Law at Villanova University.
