Exemption Exams: Some students come to Tufts with prior programming experience and may not need to take ES 2 or CS 10 before taking CS 11. These students can demonstrate their skills by taking an exemption exam for either ES 2 or CS 10. Passing either exam earns no credit but will allow students to go directly into CS 11. Both exams will be offered on October 9, so students can know their results before spring registration in November.

Passing this exam satisfies the School of Engineering’s basic computing requirement and prepares you for computational work needed in engineering disciplines. Considering a minor in Computer Science and have prior programming experience? Take the CS10 exemption exam if you are a student in the School of Arts and Sciences. Take the ES2 exemption exam if you are a student in the School of Engineering.
