Continue to Leverage Handshake for Events and Job Listings
Every week, we hear from employers who are interested in sharing their events and open positions with grad students like you!
Continue to visit Handshake for these opportunities. In addition, here are just a few ways to optimize your Handshake profile and stand out to employers during upcoming Fall 2020 events. Do one, two, or all of these tasks -- whatever works best for you!
- Complete your profile and make it public. If you have uploaded a resume to the system, Handshake will automatically fill in your profile with your resume details. (Consider uploading your document after a resume critique from a career advisor!) In addition, you are 5x more likely to be found & messaged by employers if you have a public profile.
- Add a professional photo or headshot so an employer can put a face to the name.
- Include keywords that will resonate with employers. Once you add work, volunteer, research, and on-campus experiences (reverse chronological order) and relevant skills, think about how you could incorporate keywords that catch an employer's eye. For example, if you know that a prospective employer values experience in data analytics, how might you incorporate that term in your Handshake profile? Could you use verbs like “analyzed,” “modeled” or “forecasted” to describe your work?
- Follow employers that interest you. Not only will this let them know that you’re interested in their organization(s), but you’ll be the first to know if they post jobs or events.
