PDX People at the quarterly customer service awards
How We Celebrate Exceptional Service at PDX
At PDX, we believe in recognizing the moments that truly stand out – the ones that reflect our core values of being friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful. That’s why, every quarter, we host the PDX People customer service awards.
Ever wondered, "How are winners chosen?" or even, "How can I win?" Here's everything you need to know:
Who can win?
Anyone who works at PDX is eligible. All it takes is consistently going above and beyond while embodying the PDX People values. Winners attend the event, and all nominees receive recognition.
How do I nominate someone?
If you witness great service – whether it’s a small act of kindness or an amazing customer experience – you can submit a nomination. The ability to nominate is open to everyone: coworkers, managers, and even travelers. If you see something special, say something!
How are winners selected?
The PDX working committee – made up of 30 volunteers from across airport industries – reviews the nominations and selects the winners each quarter.
What's the awards event like?
Winners and their managers are invited to a special celebration with the working committee, and will enjoy a guest speaker, good food, and an awards ceremony.
Got someone in mind? Don’t wait, nominate now and help us celebrate the amazing people who make PDX shine! Want to learn more about PDX People recognition? Check out the recognition programs and read about past winners on the PDX People website.

What's New with PDX Next: D/E Bypass Closure, Concourse B Work, and Temps in the Terminal
D/E Bypass Closure: Starting Monday, Oct. 20, through Wednesday, Oct. 22, crane work will take place from midnight to 3 a.m. During this time, the north pedestrian bypass will be closed, with an alternate exit route provided.
Concourse B Security Wall: On Monday, Oct. 20, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., crews will demolish the old security wall and construct a new one between Concourse B and the construction area; expect periodic noise during this work. The new wall will be in place through January 2026.
Temperatures in the Terminal: If it’s felt a little colder than usual in the terminal lately, you’re not imagining it. The heat is on, but with construction still underway, there are some big openings in the building that let warm air escape, especially near the north and south ends of the ticket hall. These spots are closest to the active work zones and have limited barriers to keep the cold out. The good news: it’s getting better every day! Over the next month, crews will finish installing the new window walls to help seal things up. In the meantime, crews are adding extra heat and temporary curtains to help keep everyone a little warmer.
Looking for more PDX Next information? We're keeping you in the know on what's new on the PDX People website. Have questions or suggestions about construction? Email hello@pdxnext.com or call the construction hotline at 503.460.4339.

Government Shutdown and Ways to Support Federal Colleagues
We haven't seen any travel impacts at PDX yet while the federal government shutdown continues, but we are closely monitoring the situation and remain committed to ensuring safe, reliable travel for everyone. To help keep daily airport operations running smoothly, many federal workers – including FAA air traffic controllers and TSA agents – are designated as essential and are continuing to work without pay.
If you'd like to show appreciation for our federal partners who are showing up every day and keeping things moving at PDX, there are donation bins located near the stadium stairs. Items can be dropped off at any time throughout the duration of the shutdown.

New Short Films Take Flight at PDX's Hollywood Microcinema
The Hollywood Theatre microcinema on Concourse C is flying into fall with short films that celebrate Oregon’s creativity, community, and craft. The lineup includes Zip-o-log Mills Projects by Flowerhead Productions and Sustainable Northwest  a look at the Eugene-based company behind the long, wavy, wooden beams that hold up PDX’s roof.
Other films bring their own sparkle to the screen: "Retrieving Roadie," a dog-fueled adventure about second chances; "I Saw the Mountain," a poetic blend of movement and music; Portlanders: Intisar Abioto, a portrait of one of Portland’s leading Black artists; and "Mudbone Grown," a story of redefining Black farming in Oregon. Also featured are the dreamy Silicon Forest music video, "Elements: Fire, Brim Broome Boulevard," and "Sasquatch: Ancestral Guardians," honoring Indigenous storytelling and sacred connections to the forest.
