Fall 2020 Performance Program Update

Rehearsals have been AWESOME!  Our students have done a great job following the safety protocols so moving forward all show rehearsals for Synchonicity, Jimi and Bad Brains will be IN PERSON! Woot!  Get Ready!!  AND Fall Show season sign ups are coming September 21st at 7PM.  Our Fall in person themes are:  Led Zep, One Hit Wonders, Alt Rock, and Blink 182!  Stay tuned for Fall 2020 show themes AND we will have your summer show performance dates and times posted soon.  Date #1 is September 27th.  More details to come!

In Person or Online - Your Choice!

Starting mid-September we are ready to rock your lessons and groups in house.  We have had many requests to offer in person options for those students who learn better off of zoom.  For those who need to remain online, we've got you covered and will continue to offer online lessons and options.
In Person groups are limited in size, are socially distanced and all students are required to wear masks.  There is a lot more to our safety plan, so give us a call for more details if you are considering in person programs and lessons call us on 301-589-7625.

Our Songwriting Program is Knocking Our Socks Off!

Over the past several weeks, our Songwriting crew has been working diligently on bringing their own songs to life. Our Director Neel Madan says  "As of right now, everyone has worked all the way up to the bridge and we'll be finishing the writing process in the next two weeks. From there, we'll be working on recording the demos of these tunes for them to share.  We've also been delving into the pieces that make up great songwriting and how we tackle the difficulty of staying creative and honest throughout the process. I couldn't be more thrilled with how all of our students are doing and I can't wait for them to be able to show you their unique voices!"

Rock 101 Groups Are Returning In-Person!

Starting this month, we are hosting in-person Rock 101 Open Houses and launching weekly Rock 101 in person group classes for our beginner students! The Open Houses are for students to see what it's like to play with others and have fun rockin'.  The Rock 101 group is where you connect what you are learning in your lesson to making music with others and it's FUN!  Students who participate in the Rock 101 experience learn faster and get over that beginner phase more quickly so it's a win win to participate.
For safety, we are keeping these groups much smaller than before to ensure we can be socially distant while playing and there are a host of other safety protocols in plave too. You can sign up for an Open House this week by clicking below, or, for more info or to sign up for a weekly class, please call the school @ 301-589-7625.  Our first class is already FULL so don't wait!

Did You See Our New Art Installation?

We've been spiffing and doing a few things while you've been out of the building and getting artsy!  This is our new drumstick wall art installation that you will now see as you enter the school at the top of the stairs.  We think it's pretty cool and thank Ally B for her time and energy in executing Laura's Vision for the space.

Student Spotlight - Sam Gordon

Meet Sam!
Sam is an inredible talent that has been with SOR for quite some time now. He is involved in our Lessons Program, Performance Program, and House Band.
What’s your favorite thing to do at SOR?
"My favorite thing to do at SOR is being at a show and finally playing the songs that we've spent all season rehearsing in front of an audience."

What do you like best about SOR?
"SOR gives me an opportunity to play music with other people and get lessons from really talented and nice teachers who, you can tell, really care about helping their students become the best musicians that they can."
What advice would you give to a new student?
If you're ever nervous about performing in front of an audience or even just in front of other students, just remember not to take it too seriously. Learning to be able to roll with the punches and quickly recover from mistakes while playing is an important skill to have. When you do mess up, which we all do at some point or another, just keep moving with the song and as long as you can get through it, that's all that matters.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 FAVORITE BANDS?
1. Beach House
2. Fleetwood Mac
3. My Bloody Valentine
4. The Strokes
5. Queen
