Sewanee's 18th Vice-Chancellor Elected-Rob Pearigen, C'76

Last week, Sewanee announced the election of Robert W. Pearigen, C'76, as the University's 18th vice-chancellor and president. Pearigen returns to Sewanee from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he served as president for 13 years and is known for his commitment to academic excellence, community partnerships and diversity. Before leaving Sewanee for Millsaps in 2010, he held several executive positions at the University, including dean of students and vice president for university relations. We are thrilled—and deeply grateful—to announce that Sewanee has received a generous gift of $4 million to support programming for the University Choir and scholarships for choir students from two former members of the choir, Patrick Comer, C’96, and Christina Vial Comer, C’95. SHAKE DAY

Is your new student (first year or transfer) interested in joining a fraternity or sorority? Recruitment events are taking place this week, culminating in what Sewanee calls "Shake Day". All students are required to have a cumulative GPA of 2.35 or higher to participate in fraternity or sorority recruitment.

Fall Study Abroad Applications Due

50% of Sewanee students study abroad through more than 200 approved programs. The deadline to apply for a fall study abroad program is Feb. 9.

Class Drop Period Ends

Last day to drop a course without record. After this date, students receive a grade of W when withdrawing from a course.

Deadline for ACE Internship Applications

ACE (A Career Exploration) internships are hosted by alumni, parents, and friends specifically for Sewanee students. Some ACE internships are paid while others are unpaid, and many have been offered for over a decade. ACE Medical Internships require recommendations from professors and transcripts in addition to the cover letter, resume and list of references typically required to apply for ACE Internships.  For more information on all of Sewanee's internship programs, click here.

Last Day to Declare a Minor or Certificate of Curricular Study for Enrolled Seniors Graduating this Semester

A student may choose to complete a minor field of study or, where appropriate, a certificate of curricular study in an academic discipline, but doing so is not required for graduation. A certificate recognizes a program of coursework that involves a relatively large proportion of practicum training and requires a capstone project. A certificate is mostly intended to encourage mastery of a particular skill germane to liberal arts study; it is typically more specialized than either a major or minor field of study.
