Dear Student,
Welcome back! I hope the summer gave you a chance to cross off a few goals, like maybe a reset in your routine, having a new experience, or just hanging out with those you love.
Whether you are just arriving or returning to campus, we want everyone to feel like they can fully engage with our community and express their views without fear. It may at times require courage.
We invite you to test ideas by seeking facts and truth; to examine, research, and reason the information, views, or news reports you encounter from others, including social media platforms. As you know, these are increasingly filled with misinformation and agenda-based influencers.
Knowing or learning how to examine, question, and debate ideas and concepts with peers––without disrespecting or dismissing one another––is a skill that will enable you to learn, grow, and lead both here at Tufts and throughout your life.
As a resource, we have compiled guidelines, tips, and the university's policies regarding free speech and free expression on our AS&E Student website. Please take a moment to explore it!
In the meantime, come by the Dean of Students Office in Dowling and say hello, or just to grab a free ice cream or frozen treat.
Looking forward to a great year,
Dean L
