What's New with PDX Next: Exiting Sterile Area
Exiting Sterile Area: To improve traffic flow during construction near the bypass doors – and to avoid the classic "bypass door tango" (you go, no, you go!) – PDX employees should use the Concourse Connector to exit the sterile area. Please use the north and south security bypass hallways only to enter the sterile area. Note: This guidance does not apply to first responders.

Be Knowledgeable: PDX Employee Interfaith Prayer Room
Did you know that we have an employee-only Interfaith Prayer Room at PDX? The room is on the mezzanine, at the end of the hallway north of the Lost and Found office. The door is always unlocked, but there is a keypad on the door that isn’t currently in use.
As always, being respectful is a PDX People core value, which includes your actions toward other airport workers and shared spaces. With that in mind, please note a few guidelines for the room:
  • Please be respectful of all occupants.
  • Enter and exit in a quiet and peaceful manner.
  • Reserve all conversation for outside this space.
  • Food and beverages are prohibited.
  • Do not leave personal belongings in this space.
PDX People Spotlight: Country Cat's Ashley Sauer Brings Great Service to the Table
Some people show up at PDX with a spreadsheet. Others? Just vibes. Either way, Ashley’s got you! She’s behind the bar at Country Cat, serving up fried chicken worth arriving early for, morning mocktails, and a spot to pull up a seat that’s more "Southern hospitality" than "grab and go." Ashley recently earned a PDX People customer service award for the kind of service that turns a delay into brunch. Catch her Monday through Thursday mornings – pull up a seat, order the avocado toast, and let Ashley make your day a little brighter.

Portland Tribune: Progress for Revamped PDX? The Sky’s the Limit
The years-long project to revamp PDX recently reached another milestone when we completed the footprint for Phase 2 of the new main terminal. The new portion includes transitional space between Concourses B and C, as well as a new Alaska Airlines lounge with an expansive view of forested highlands. Expected to open in the first quarter of 2026, it also includes 10 more local restaurants and shops; exits for arriving passengers; and banks of private, all-user restrooms with tile mosaics created by local artisans. The Portland Tribune went behind the scenes to check out the future meeter/greeter area with throw-back carpet, new escalators to take people to baggage claim, and the seismic safety features of the new space.
PDX in Pictures
Strolling through PDX’s Concourse B and feel your stress melting away? That might just be the magic of Hiroko Cannon’s watercolors at work.
Her exhibition "Life With Wings," is a quiet love letter to the birds and plants of the Pacific Northwest – painted with such care, you might swear you’re hearing the flutter of feathers or the humming of a bee.
Hiroko lives in Pendleton, Oregon, and her backyard is basically a bird spa that's full of native plants, cozy twig bundles, and solitary bee houses (yes, that’s a thing and it’s adorable). Her brushwork is so delicate, folks have asked her what microscopic tools she’s using.
Swing by her exhibit next time you’re on Concourse B – it’s up through summer 2025 and feels like a deep breath you didn’t know you needed. And if you’re looking to bring a little calm home, prints are available through Pendleton Center for the Arts
