WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT FALLS
Facts About Falls www.cdc.gov/falls/facts
Falls can be prevented. These are some simple things you can do to keep yourself from falling.

Talk to Your Doctor

• Ask your doctor or healthcare provider to evaluate your risk for falling and talk with them about specific things you can do.

• Ask your doctor or pharmacist to review your medicines to see if any might make you dizzy or sleepy. This should include prescription medicines and over-the-counter medicines.

• Ask your doctor or healthcare provider about taking vitamin D supplements.

Do Strength & Balance Exercises

Do exercises that make your legs stronger and improve your balance.

Have Your Eyes Checked

Have your eyes checked by an eye doctor at least once a year, and be sure to update your eyeglasses if needed. If you have bifocal or progressive lenses, you may want to get a pair of glasses with only your distance prescription for outdoor activities, such as walking. Sometimes these types of lenses can make things seem closer or farther away than they really are.
Make Your Home Safer
• Get rid of things you could trip over.
• Add grab bars inside and outside your tub or shower and next to the toilet.
• Put railings on both sides of stairs.
• Make sure your home has lots of light by adding more or brighter light bulbs.
• Keep items you use often in cabinets you can reach easily without using a step stool.
• Use non-slip mats in the bathtub and on shower floors.
YMCA OF GREATER SPRINGFIELD 2022 GOLF CLASSIC
The community making an impact
Thank you to all those who supported and participated in our 2022 Golf Classic, on September 28th at Twin Hills Country Club. We couldn’t have asked for a better day....sunshine and a cool breeze. A special thank you to Monson Savings Bank and Dan Moriarty, President, for being our Presenting Sponsor. Also a thank you to our Birdie Sponsors: Kidney Care and Transplant Services of New England, PeoplesBank, Secure Energy, and Wellfleet. Thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, and staff who came out to help make the day great.
Thank you also to Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow for helping. With the help of so many, we were able to raise $70,000 to support the YMCA scholarship program and programs at the Y. This support and that of many is helping the YMCA to provide early learning opportunities to our youngest members, keeping children safe and nurtured after school, providing adventurous summer camp experiences, mentoring and tutoring teens, helping to put families on the track towards healthy living, providing a social outlet for members of our community and providing support for the community’s need during dificult times. The YMCA of Greater Springfield provides programs and activities that teach the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
VOLUNTEERS
We are so grateful to all our volunteers throughout the year who in one way or another other spend part or all of their day with us to help out. Thank you.

Volunteers from Mass Mutual and the United Way Day of Caring

"Jen and I (Charlene) have been volunteering at the Wilbraham
YMCA for the past 4 years. Mass Mutual and United Way team up
and offer volunteer days. We chose the Y because it gives back so much to the community. Young or old the Y has something for everyone. The staff here is awesome too! Always so helpful and kind. We look forward to volunteering here every year."

AFTER SCHOOL ENROLLMENT
By becoming a sponsor at our 2022 Golf Classic, you can make an impact for so many in the community to help support our financial assistance program to send kids to camp, to before and after school programs, to preschool and so much more!
LIVESTRONG® A THE YMCA

“Meet Tom”
LIVESTRONG® at the Y has been a big part of my journey to healthy living. 2 years ago, I was given a handicap placard from my doctor because I had a hard time walking across a large parking lot to get into a store. Today, folks from my LIVESTRONG® class of Summer 2020, get together once a week to walk at various locations Last Thursday I did 4.1 miles, no problem!
