Native American Heritage Month November is Native American Heritage Month. This month marks a time to celebrate the beauty, resilence, and contributions of Indeginous people. We celebrate with the hundreds of recognized and non-recognized tribes all across our state and beyond. We honor the leaders, changemakers, and activists continually working towards a better future. And most importantly, we support a people who conserve and restore the land and water that sustains life for all.
Partners in Diversity, today and always, honors Indigenous people through celebration and advocacy. Please join us on November 16th at Say Hey! for a special performance by Native American flutist Jan Michael Looking Wolf. Thank you to KEEN Footwear for sponsoring this quarter’s Say Hey! event.

In Case You Missed It
October was about building foundational elements for growth. Participants of Partners in Diversity’s Black Community Resource Group (BCRG) gathered to learn about financial planning and other money matters. Then, last week, members got to workshop a DEI approach that some have called “equity 2.0.” They learned about targeted universalism with Professor john a. powell from the Othering and Belonging Institute and practiced key steps to building programs and policies that leave no one behind.

Mari's Memo
Occasionally, people ask us for a contact list of members. For privacy reasons, we never give those out. Instead, I encourage them to come to our programs and network. Participants and attendees of our programs come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are leaders in their organization who clearly care about diversity, equity and inclusion.
This question came up again recently and that got me thinking about relationship-building. Success in life – personally and professionally – is built on great relationships. At Partners in Diversity, we provide opportunities for people to build meaningful connections through programs such as Breakfast for Champions, Say Hey!, Say Hey! for Interns and Community Resource Groups. They are avenues to engage with people from diverse backgrounds and build trust.
Strong relationships are about treating people with grace, kindness, respect and empathy. I believe in karma. Give often and without expectations of returns. In time, you will receive in the most unexpected and beautiful manner. These are real connections and real relationships.
