Want to Help Families in NC? Join Our Board!

BEGINNINGS is seeking new members for our Board of Directors! If you have a passion for helping families of deaf or hard of hearing children grow and thrive, consider joining us. We want to add members from around the state during 2023.
For more information about qualifications and the nomination process, contact Diane Doak, Executive Director.

BEGINNINGS Staff Attends National Workshop

BEGINNINGS parent educator Johanna Lynch recently participated in a workshop with the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes (NDC), national technical and dissemination center funded by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Teams from seven states explored ways to improve transition to adulthood outcomes for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This is just a recent example of the many professional organizations and conferences to which BEGINNINGS staff members are invited to lend our expertise.

BBQ/Oyster Roast a Fun Event!

BEGINNINGS had a beautiful October evening for the annual BBQ/Oyster Roast benefiting our work with families across North Carolina whose children are deaf or hard of hearing. A crowd of friends and families turned out to enjoy delicious food, beverages and children's games, along with the chance to learn more about BEGINNINGS.
Thank you to our generous in-kind sponsors: Longleaf Swine, Bowstring Pizza and Beer, Earp's Seafood and Total Wine & More, and to the Fundraising Committee of our Board of Directors for spearheading a successful event! (Photos and video by Ken Demery).
Missed the Fun? You Can Still Donate!

Q&A with Parent Educator Alejandra Casapia

Q: Tell us about your background.
A: I have a B.S. from UNC Wilmington with a focus in Psychology. I previously helped
open an Assisted Living facility as the Director of Community Relations, helping families
navigate the long-term world and hard decisions they had to make. I advocated for families or those who had no families to advocate for them, and it has been a gift teaching parents to advocate for themselves and their children as a parent educator with BEGINNINGS.
