Fun-Filled Eggstravaganza
Make plans to attend the annual Eggstravaganza on April 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at John Hunt Park. The family-friendly event will have something for everyone, including egg hunts for children based on age. Kid-friendly food trucks will also be on site and children can also enjoy inflatables, interactive games and meet the Easter Bunny!

Monroe Street Streetscaping
Monroe Street will soon be getting an upgrade near the Von Braun Center. The City has contracted with Miller & Miller for streetscaping improvements between Williams Avenue and Clinton Avenue. The project will include installation of new sidewalks, streetlights, landscaping, irrigation and asphalt resurfacing.

Honoring Walker McGinnis
Council Members Kling and Jennie Robinson honored the late Walker McGinnis for a lifetime of service at Huntsville City Schools at the March 13 Council meeting. McGinnis served seven years on the school board, culminating a career that included roles as principal at Chapman Middle School, assistant principal at Whitesburg and Grissom middle schools as well as coaching. The Council Members presented a resolution to McGinnis’ wife, Jeaneen, at the meeting.

Commending a servant

Council Member Kling presented a Council resolution to Rev. Rick Johnson on March 30. The resolution commemorates Johnson's 40 years of service at Friendship Baptist Church. He has served in ministry for 48 years, including as youth pastor at three different churches.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration
The storms that forced cancellation of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade didn’t squelch all the Irish enthusiasm in Huntsville. Council Member Kling took part in an impromptu St. Patrick’s Day parade at Campus 805 during a stoppage in the rain. With bagpipes playing and flags waving, an unofficial good time was had by all.

Sherwood Park Civic Engagement
Council Member Kling was honored to be a guest speaker at the Sherwood Park Civic Association meeting on March 18. Kling provided updates on City business (including a favorite topic of street sweepers) and took questions from the audience.

HCFC Youth Soccer Academy
Youth soccer in north Alabama received big news with the announcement by Huntsville City Football Club that it is launching the HCFC Academy this fall. The academy will provide an elite training ground for the game’s future stars through MLS NEXT. For a soccer community that’s already thriving, the HCFC initiative will take soccer in Huntsville to greater heights.

Council Member Kling will hold his monthly drop-in office hours on Monday, April 21, from 6-7 p.m. at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library downtown branch. Drop in for a conversation about D4 and share your insights about how to make Huntsville its best.
