ACE your semester
Friday, Oct. 23, 2020
With 23 days left to go, the Bryant community has completed 75% of the fall semester together. We are grateful for the commitment of our faculty, students, and staff - especially those working very hard to keep teaching and learning through the compressed academic calendar.
The public health challenges of COVID-19 are as critical as when we first reopened campus in August. Cases are increasing across the U.S. and in Europe. Let’s keep the Bryant spirit strong and continue to look out for each other by wearing masks, keeping social distance, handwashing and avoiding unprotected gatherings and unnecessary trips off campus.
We can do this!

ACE your semester
Bryant’s compressed academic calendar allows us to end classes Nov. 16, but we understand it is a rigorous pace. As students plan to finish strong, the staff at the University’s Centers for Student Success offers the following tips:
Reflect on where you are studying and resist the temptation to study in your residence hall room or bedroom (for remote learners). Find an alternative place to study. Remote learners can take over the dining room or kitchen table. For on campus students, utilize the Krupp Library and beyond the library look to study in an empty classroom in one of the academic buildings or find a spot in the Fisher Center.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with the remaining workload for the rest of the semester, regroup by leveraging some basic time management strategies. If you are stuck in this process, come to ACE, pick up a planner, and make an appointment with a learning specialist.
Feeling burnt out? Be mindful of taking breaks, but no naps! Instead, go for a short walk, invite a friend for coffee, or choose one campus activity each day to attend.
Feeling unmotivated? You are not alone. Use a classmate, roommate, friend, or teammate as an accountability partner. What does this mean? Set goals and make a study plan together and then hold each other accountable.
Utilize your professors’ office hours. Talk to them about your progress in class. Don’t make excuses if you have fallen behind; rather, be honest about your challenges and sincere about your desire to turn things around.
Ask for help. This can be very difficult, but if you have been unsuccessful going at this endeavor alone, there is help available. Contact Laurie Hazard, the Assistant Dean for Students Success, and she will point you in the right direction: lhazard@bryant.edu.

Amica Center Notes Employment Trends, Class of 2020 Hiring
Nationally, the COVID-19 pandemic threw in-person talent acquisition on college campuses a curve ball, including companies seeking to hire talent from Bryant’s Class of 2020. Campus recruiting visits, in-person information sessions, and career fairs were curtailed. Many students who had secured opportunities suddenly found themselves scrambling to find alternative opportunities because of “COVID Cancellations.” At Bryant, there were some canceled internships and withdrawn offers, but not many. In fact, the staff within the Amica Center for Career Education has continued to hear employment success stories, one-by-one.
We ran a quick poll with employers and, while not a formal empirical survey, learned that companies have been hiring. Contrary to some of the narrative heard, some have even exceeded their Class of 2019 hiring.
In addition, a few firms have been offering signing bonuses, something we have not seen in several years. Why? Top talent is in demand and Bryant candidates are top talent. The organizations are competing with each other for Bryant graduates. In addition, employers are “dual” class recruiting – that is, they are seeking both Class of 2020 graduates for immediate hires and Class of 2021 for summer 2021 hires.
Make the most of Wintersession
Registration for Wintersession is open and students are encouraged to take advantage of both sessions, Dec. 3-22 and Jan. 4-22. The modified schedule provides a chance to accelerate degree completion and expand learning interests. Winter classes are fully remote and at reduced tuition.
“Winternships” provide a unique opportunity for students to complete a 120-hour academic internship. Students must plan early and will need to file their enrollment forms by Nov. 7. Questions? Contact Denise Gormley or Heather Grim.
