March 2022

Welcome to Miami!

Congratulations on joining the Miami University Class of 2026! We are thrilled to welcome you to the Miami family! This is the first of many Hawk Herald newsletters you will receive during your first year at Miami. The Hawk Herald is designed specifically for new Miami students; each edition is packed with information, tips, and resources to support your transition to academic and student life.
The first issue of the Hawk Herald includes important details about the fall semester orientation process for first-year students.

Fall Semester Orientation

Your next step as a confirmed Miami student is to engage in the first-year orientation process. Through orientation, you will build connections, learn about your academic curriculum, set goals and join student organizations, register for fall classes, and receive your Miami student ID.
Fall semester orientation 2022 includes five components, each of which builds on the previous step:
  • Orientation Canvas course (two parts)
  • In-person orientation program (May 31 - June 30)
  • Transition to college webinar series
  • Miami Bound pre-semester programs (optional)
  • Welcome Weekend and First 50 Days

Register for an On-Campus Orientation Program

Registration for fall semester orientation  begins on Thursday, March 24 at 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. In-person orientation sessions are for both you and your parents and family members. View the orientation program dates »
Orientation sessions fill up on a first-come, first-served basis and do not have waiting lists. Please register early and be as flexible as possible with your availability. A common misconception is that students who attend later orientation sessions will have difficulty registering for classes. In reality, seats in the most common first-year courses are released for each orientation program; students who attend later sessions are not at a disadvantage. You will leave orientation with a full schedule of classes that will help you on your way to timely degree completion.

Accessing Your Miami Account

In order to register for fall semester orientation, you must log in using your UniqueID and MUnet password. Your UniqueID can be found in the email you received just after confirming your admission with the subject line Your next steps with Miami. If you've not yet logged in to a Miami University system, your default password is the month and day of your birth and the last four digits of your social security number (SSN). If you did not provide an SSN, use the last four digits of your Banner ID number, located at the bottom of your acceptance letter.
Students (not parents) must enroll in DUO two-factor authentication. You will be prompted to enroll in DUO the first time you sign in to ANY Miami resource after confirming admission. The easiest method for using DUO is a smartphone app (but texts and phone calls are also permissible). For questions about DUO, see the IT Knowledge Base, and/or the IT Services DUO guide.
Should you have trouble logging into your Miami University account, contact IT Services 24 hours a day at MiamiOH.edu/ITchat or 513-529-7900.
