Be Knowledgeable: Shut the Door on Security Risks
When it comes to airport safety, one small action can make a big difference – like closing a door. If you badge through a secure door, make sure it fully closes behind you. Don’t just assume it latched: listen for the click or check to confirm. Never leave it for the next person.
If you spot an unsecured door, report it immediately to the Communications Center non-emergency line at 503-460-4747.
Here's what’s not allowed through the bypass doors:
  • Food deliveries
  • Sharp items or weapons
  • Personal luggage intended for travel
Not following these rules is a security violation and can lead to a 10-day badge suspension. Multiple violations may mean fines for your employer. So, let’s keep it simple: Shut the door, check the click, and if something’s not right, report it. Thanks for doing your part to keep PDX secure – one door at a time!

Washington Post: The 50 Best Airports in America, Ranked
To build the best airports list, The Washington Post took the question to readers, soliciting more than 2,300 responses. They also factored in more than 450,000 Yelp reviews for airport shops, restaurants, and the buildings themselves. As The Post wrote, "Walk into this airport terminal and gasp – it’s practically a nature bath. This is an airport that has fun and wants you to do the same. See it in the swaths of fan-favorite carpet and hear it from the live musicians. Spot it in the speakeasy. Feel it when you scritch a visiting llama. Share it from the oversize pink mailbox. While you’re at it, enjoy the flavors from local restaurants and shops. It all adds up to an airport with so much to enjoy that you may wish for a delay."
Big thanks to all the incredible employees and volunteers at PDX. Your care, professionalism, and friendly service shine through every day, and travelers feel it. Whether you're guiding guests, keeping things running smoothly, or just offering a warm smile, you’re what makes PDX the best airport in the country.
James Lavadour and Ryan Pierce
Two Oregon Artists Chosen to Create Large-Scale, 2D Public Artworks at PDX
More art is making its way into our airport: Oregon artists James Lavadour and Ryan Pierce will create large-scale, 2D public artworks for PDX, to be installed in late 2025 and debut to the public in 2026.
Lavadour’s "Conduit" will honor our region’s landscapes and Indigenous artistic legacy, while Pierce’s "Liberated Luggage" will invite travelers to engage with the resilience and playfulness of our natural world. Lavadour’s work will be in the south entry hall, greeting both entering and exiting visitors to PDX. With its contemporary abstraction of landscapes, the painting will be a companion piece to the mural by Louis Bunce originally commissioned for the airport in 1958. At the north end of baggage claim, Pierce’s artwork will greet passengers exiting international arrivals and will be visible from a waiting lounge where travelers meet family and friends, creating a first impression of Oregon.

PDX Curates Concessions That Reflect the Rose City
After Monocle Magazine wrote that PDX "might now be the best airport in the U.S. thanks to its top-notch shops, restaurants, and bars," Gregory Scruggs of Monocle Radio came back to talk (literal) shop with Abby Carey, Port of Portland Concessions Development Manager, digging into what makes our concessions program unique, how well it reflects Portland’s renowned food scene, and how it showcases our small business community. Greg also spoke with Grassa co-owner Nick Schuurman about making the leap from a brick-and-mortar and the intricacies of running a "proper restaurant" in a working airport. Listen to the PDX portion (7:00-17:00) here.

Is it Sabrina’s Summer or Addison’s? Maybe both. But if we’re betting, this year’s answer to Brat Summer might just be PDX Summer.
We’re turning the terminal into a street fair! You might spot concessions offering deals and samples, plus therapy pups, llamas and live music. Street fair pop-ups are happening all summer long. So, if travelers ask, let them know it's PDX Summer...and encourage them to enjoy the fun.
