Dear Hilltoppers,

The St. Edward’s University Board of Trustees has formally begun the search for an Interim President in partnership with AGB Search, a nationally respected firm specializing in higher education leadership searches. We have launched a dedicated webpage with information on the process, timeline and frequently asked questions, which we will update as the work progresses.

We are focused on identifying candidates with prior presidential experience in higher education who can maintain stable operations, reinforce strategic focus, support morale and ensure institutional continuity. Ideal candidates are expected to bring seasoned judgment, credibility with external stakeholders and the capacity to lead through complexity from day one.

The process includes developing a position profile, reviewing candidate credentials and conducting candidate interviews. In April, finalist candidates will meet with leaders of the University’s shared governance groups representing faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Our goal is to announce the Interim President by early May, allowing the individual to begin in June and provide a month-long overlap with President Fuentes before her sabbatical begins July 1. The Interim President may serve for up to two years while the Board prepares to launch a national search for the University’s next permanent President.

We encourage you to share questions or feedback either by emailing transition@stedwards.edu or speaking directly with your respective shared governance leaders:
  • Alumni Association Representative: Andrew Harper '03, MLA '07, Alumni Association President
  • Faculty Representative: Jason Callahan, PhD, Faculty Senate President
  • Staff Representative: Valerie Martin '21, Staff Council Chair
  • Student Representative: Angelica Scheer '27, Student Government Association President
An interim search is structured differently from the search for a permanent president. The permanent search, which will launch later this year, will be highly participatory and unfold over many months with broad campus engagement.

Throughout the searches for both an Interim President and a permanent President, the Board remains guided by our Holy Cross mission and by the responsibility entrusted to us to steward the University’s long-term strength. We encourage you to visit the webpage to learn more, and we will continue to provide updates as this work moves forward.
