CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Construction Starts on DERConnect Research Facility
Project Purpose The primary objective is to build a testbed that allows universities, utilities and industry leaders to achieve a better understanding of how to integrate renewable energy resources into the power grid. The project is driven by the need to decarbonize the electrical grid and the lack of existing large-scale, centralized testing facilities. DERConnect represents one all-inclusive facility that enables testing of novel approaches and algorithms for real-world applications.
Location and Duration:
The facility will be located in the area north of the East Campus Central Utilities Plant and south of Campus Point Drive. Please view a map of the area.
Construction will start on February 13, 2023, and will be completed in February 2024. The hours of work are from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts: Construction may intermittently impact the access road to the East Campus Central Utilities Plant during underground utilities installation.
No parking lot, street, or pedestrian and bike lanes will be impacted by this construction.
If you have any questions, please contact Project Manager Nicole Cheng (nmcheng@ucsd.edu) at (858) 822-1874. We greatly appreciate your patience during these construction activities.
