Dear Colleagues,
Junior faculty members across Duke ECE are carving out innovative research niches in a variety of fields. Even in a challenging funding landscape, Assistant Professors Tingjun Chen and Haozhe “Harry” Wang received prestigious NSF CAREER Awards, which you can learn more about below. Their projects, which investigate wireless and optical communications and high-performance 2D materials known as MXenes, respectively, position Duke ECE at the cutting edge of emerging technologies. (Don’t miss the video linked at the top showing MXenes in motion!)
I’m also pleased to share two important reappointments that solidify the continuity and strength of leadership at Duke Engineering. I'm honored to be reappointed as chair of Duke ECE for another five-year term, and I’m equally excited to share that Jerome Lynch, our Vinik Dean of Engineering, will lead the school through 2031. It has been a privilege to guide this department alongside Dean Lynch, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter of collaboration, growth and innovation at Duke.
