| Sewanee in London: Sacred Spaces and Timeless Traditions
|
|
|
|
The Office of Alumni and Parent Programs has offered excursions to our alumni and parents throughout the years. Our travelers give the Sewanee-sponsored travel program wonderful reviews for making the trips as unique and special as the Sewanee experience. We have a fantastic excursion to London scheduled for July 16-25, 2025.
The 10-day trip will focus on theatre, art, and Roman history. The guided trip will be led by Professor of Theater Jim Crawford and Professor of Classics Chris McDonough. This exciting trip also includes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a concert by University Organist and Choirmaster Geoffrey Ward in Westminster Abbey.
We think the trip will fill up quickly, so we want to make you aware of this very special opportunity.

Professor David Haskell Gives Easter Convocation Address
|
|
|
|
The University held its Easter Semester Convocation on Friday, Jan. 17, to induct new members into the Order of the Gown and, following a tradition established in 2024, recognize the teaching and scholarship of the faculty by featuring remarks delivered by a University professor. This year, Professor of Biology David Haskell, an award-winning educator and writer, was selected to give the convocation address. Career Internship and Fellowship Deadlines Approaching
|
|
|
|
It's Internship Season! Our Career Readiness + Student Success team has a number of ways to support students seeking summer opportunities that will help them to gain insights into a career field, obtain valuable professional experience, and develop new skills.
ACE (A Career Exploration) Internships are hosted by alumni, parents, and friends specifically for Sewanee students and take place in a wide range of disciplines and locations. The deadline for most ACE Internships is Saturday, Feb. 15. Career Readiness + Student Success coaches have appointments available to review resumes and cover letters, and to search for internships. They will also host drop-in meetings during the week of Feb. 10–14 -- no appointments needed -- to advise students on how to prepare their applications. A link to the ACE Internship listing is here.
Funding for summer internships and research fellowships is available through the generosity of alumni and friends of the University. In 2024, Sewanee awarded more than $620,000 in funding to enable 193 students to complete internships and research fellowships across 19 U.S. states and territories, and 12 other countries; learn more here. Is your new student (first year or transfer) interested in joining a fraternity or sorority? Recruitment events are taking place Feb. 2-7, culminating in what Sewanee calls "Shake Day" on Feb. 8. All students are required to have a cumulative GPA of 2.35 or higher to participate in fraternity or sorority recruitment.
