COVID-19 Campus Reminder

Staff can meet with students in-person, but will also continue to meet remotely via phone, Zoom or Google Meet, if preferred. Miami University requires face coverings indoors at all times, regardless of vaccination status.

Project Dragonfly Opportunities

Earth Expeditions are Miami University study abroad courses designed for people at all stages of their life and career who are looking for inspiring professional development opportunities while earning graduate credit*. All courses engage with grassroots conservation and sustainability programs that are making a difference.
Applications for Project Dragonfly's Earth Expeditions field courses that occur online and in Africa, Asia, and the Americas are due January 28, 2022. Earn graduate credit or a full global master's degree.
Current Miami University graduate students and select undergraduates are eligible to apply!
*Miami University discounts tuition to make these experiences possible for a broad range of professionals.

Global Faculty Research Profile: Kate Dannies

Assistant Professor Kate Dannies (Global and Intercultural Studies/International Studies) discusses her research focusing on on Turkey during the World War I-era Ottoman Empire. She is currently a 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. Scholar at the American Research Institute in Istanbul and Ankara, focusing on how Turkey’s gender politics, family law and relationships, social welfare policies, and other cultural elements were affected and disrupted by the decline of the regime.

Critical Language Scholarship Semi-Finalists Announced

Critical Language Scholarship program logo
Four Miami students were named semi-finalists for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, an intensive overseas summer language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.
Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

Next month, the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program will launch their 2023-24 competition. Hundreds of awards across all world regions will allow academics as well as professionals and artists to teach, research, and carry out professional projects abroad.
Interested faculty and staff are invited to attend a webinar, "The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program: Opportunities for 2023-24" that will highlight opportunities open to applicants in the Fulbright U.S. Scholar competition.

Reminder: Enter the Miami Lingua Mater Competition!

Miami Lingua Mater Competition
Can you translate Miami’s Alma Mater and/or Fight Song into your mother tongue, a language you are learning/have learned at Miami, or ASL and sing/sign it? Students and alumni are invited to translate our Alma Mater and/or Fight Song and submit a performance video.
Submission deadline: February 25, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. USA Eastern Time

Apply for the UniDiversity Scholarship

The UniDiversity Scholarship offers support for underrepresented students, with a preference for Latino/Latina students. Two scholarships up to $350 will be awarded this year. Interested students are invited to submit a statement of need detailing the way in which you would choose to use the scholarship and how it would benefit your academic and personal journey. Applicants are also encouraged to share about your various identities and how they have impacted your time at Miami.
Submission deadline: March 1, 2022.
Selected recipients will be notified by April 1, 2022.

International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) is seeking a full-time Program Manager to support the development and delivery of comprehensive and effective orientation and transition programming for new undergraduate and graduate international students, as well as on-going high-impact programs, activities, and excursions to help international students integrate into the Miami University community. The Program Manager will take the lead on liaising with international student organizations and hiring and training International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs). The Program Manager will also assist with the facilitation of activities and excursions for participants of non-credit international programs.

Welcome Kimberly Miller!

This month, Global Initiatives welcomed the new assistant director of MUDEC, Kimberly Miller, to the staff. Based in Oxford, Kimberly is a MUDEC alum, and she is excited to get to work.
In addition to supporting our current students, Kimberly invites students and families who are interested in future MUDEC experiences to join her at one of these upcoming virtual info sessions:
