Happy Monday, everyone, and welcome to our first April edition of the CHDCM newsletter! The rainy weekend definitely has me looking ahead to the blooms that will increasingly appear across our beautiful campus and region! I hope you all continue to lean into happiness and outdoor activities that accompany this change of seasons.
This past weekend, I was fortunate to be among those welcoming our prospective students to campus—our Pirate Preview brought faculty, student ambassadors, Graduate Assistants, staff, and administrators together to earn our recruiter merit badges…and get our next crop of CHDCM students excited about their future! I also was able to help kick off the SHU Images 2025 Media Festival, which brought together our media community of alums, faculty, and students to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of our graduates, faculty, and current students—a fantastic showcase for some of our CHDCM creatives! And, as you’ll see below, this weekend also found two of our Center for Sports Media Pirates in the Field on the ground in San Antonio to cover the Men’s NCAA Final Four!
This month also includes a host of events—not only Earth Day, but April is Deaf History Month, Autism Acceptance Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Arab American Heritage Month, and Scottish American Heritage Month! Yet, even as we mark these Spring milestones, we’re also looking ahead—to the next academic year! We’re thinking fall classes—advising and registration means that we’re excited about all our offerings next semester, so make sure you are signing up for the courses you want and need in the Fall!
I also would be remiss if I didn’t mention GIVING DAY! The Seton Hall community is banding together April 9-10 to celebrate our achievements and seek support for our ongoing and new initiatives! Visit the Giving Day page to see our CHDCM-specific challenges—we’ve got 7 matching challenges to complete, which will unlock gifts to support WSOU, student scholarships in CHDCM, Brownson Speech & Debate, and our doctoral students in the Department of Education Leadership, Management, and Policy! And my Dean’s matching challenge unlocks a $1,000 gift from me if we hit 100 total donors during Giving Day, so please join me and encourage our community of friends, family, and alums to participate as well!
With that, as we continue speeding toward exams and graduation, I hope you all remain healthy and well. And, as you work through stacks of assignments (whether completing them or grading them), I invite you to read through this newsletter, and learn about what our amazing community is up to—because there is lots of great stuff to check out in this edition! Otherwise, please keep your good news and event notes coming, and have a wonderful week!
