Register for the CFE Teaching Essentials Series

The Teaching Essentials Series program is a series of one-hour workshops for scientists, clinicians, researchers, post-docs, and graduate students who want to learn more about key aspects of teaching & learning. Each session has an online component consisting of short videos and brief exercises to do on your own prior to the session. Participants then attend a 1-hour interactive virtual workshop session to apply concepts and get feedback from peers.
Sessions are held monthly from August 2024 - December 2024 as indicated above from 12:00 - 1:00 pm via Zoom.

Manuscript Acceptance to the Journal of Pediatric Emergency Care

Dr. Kenny McKinley
Dr. Kenny McKinley, a participant in last year's CFE Scholarly Writing Program, who had his manuscript entitled "The National Emergency Department Overcrowding Scale and Perceived Staff Workload: Evidence for Construct Validity in a pediatric setting" accepted for publication in the journal of Pediatric Emergency Care. Congratulations to Dr. McKinley on this achievement!

Dr. Jenny Keller
Join the CFE as we highlight Dr. Jennifer Keller, MD, MPH, FACOG (she/her), who discusses her journey within the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN)and her role as the Director of the Office of Professional and Respectful Learning (OPRL). She discusses her journey from trainee to faculty, how leadership roles within residency education and her department led her to the OPRL, and the importance of open communication and understanding in resolving issues in academic medicine. Finally, Dr. Keller discusses some of the current initiatives and future directions the office has to improve the learning environment. Read the full interview here.

Harnessing GenAI to Create Text and Presentations

Want to start using genAI tools but don’t know where to start? Join the CFE for our second Fall Workshop Education Technology Session - Harnessing GenAI to Create Text and Presentations.  Kirsten Brown, PhD, MA, Associate Director of Teaching & Learning and Career Development, and Teodora Hristov, Senior Instructional Designer, will provide an overview of how genAI tools, such as ChatGPT, Napkin.ai, Microsoft Copilot, can be used for designing slides, writing narratives, and developing clinical cases and multiple choice questions (MCQs). We will also cover opportunities and limitations in applying tools to your text and presentation needs. Participants will leave with strategies to integrate AI into their future endeavors.

Wednesdays from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. 

Do you need help designing an educational session or using a new teaching technology? Teddy Hristov, the CFE Senior Instructional Designer, holds weekly office hours to support faculty. 
These office hours are designated for discussing and practicing the best use of educational technology and pedagogical teaching/learning methods. If you have questions about completing a session design worksheet, do not hesitate to contact her.

NEGEA, NEGSA, and NEOSR invite you to submit proposals and abstracts to the first ever joint conference, focused on medical education, student affairs and services! Join your colleagues in the Northeast at this collaborative conference for an event dedicated to inspiring and fostering innovative dialogue, research, and sessions that advance critical conversations.

The inspiration is to collaboratively discuss challenges and opportunities in our areas, explore new ways of thinking and working, and expand your network. Embracing our theme, "The Power of Partnership: Innovation and Inspiration in Critical Conversations," we invite you to contribute to this pioneering event by submitting your proposals and abstracts, sharing your research, innovations, and pivotal disscusions with colleagues across the Northeast. AAMC Mid-Career 2024 Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar
The AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar addresses the needs of associate level faculty who are historically underrepresented in medicine through knowledge sharing, skill building, and strategy development for career advancement in academic medicine. Using a culturally responsive approach, this program offers networking opportunities, career development planning sessions, and small group consultations with senior faculty and leaders. Interested applicants can visit the registration page for more information and fees.

The AAMC IDEAS Learning Webinars are free resources for registered members. AAMC membership is also free.  The IDEAS Learning Webinars are led by experts to provide "comprehensive, reliable information." These educational series are helpful to health and medical faculty, staff, and students who want to be proactive in their efforts to foster inclusive environments and promote equity in medical schools.
