Dear Incoming Students,
As you may be aware, our Resident Assistants (RAs) have shared their intention to strike on Tuesday. The University is committed to continuing to bargain in good faith and hopes the RAs will return to the table and work with us to reach their first contract.
I am writing to assure you that, whatever the RA union decides to do, we are prepared to welcome and support all students and families as they move-in and return to campus. Although we appreciate the valuable role our RAs have traditionally played, we have made robust contingency plans to fully support you in the event of a strike, and our staff are well-prepared to step in and help.
In the event of a strike, the RAs may form picket lines, share flyers, and engage in other communications to promote their position, which they are permitted to do.
The arrival and move-in process for students participating in pre-orientation programs went extremely smoothly last week. We are excited to welcome the remaining members of your class and your families on Tuesday, August 29, and we are looking forward to the Matriculation Ceremony the following day.
Please contact my office directly if you have any questions or concerns.
With appreciation,
Dean L
