Dear Student,
I’m pleased to welcome Christopher (Chris) Campbell to Tufts University and the Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion as the Director of the FIRST Resource Center. Chris holds a Master’s Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont and a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies and concentration in Africana Studies from the College of the Holy Cross.
Prior to joining Tufts, Chris was the Director for Student Inclusion and Belonging at the College of the Holy Cross. His role included supporting historically underrepresented students, implementing strategies to ensure the success and retention of all students, and advancing pedagogical and curricular initiatives that foster inclusion and effectively address issues of power, privilege, and equity. Prior to this role he was the Assistant Director of Residential Life for Education and Engagement at Amherst College. He also taught a cross-race dialogue course at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Chris is excited to join the Jumbo family and work collaboratively with campus constituents to enhance campus climate while implementing data-driven programs and initiatives focused on the elimination of student achievement gaps and barriers associated with creating a sense of inclusion and belonging among first-gen, low-income, and students with undocumented status.
As a proud Black, Jamaican, queer, and first-generation college graduate, Chris is passionate about supporting historically underrepresented students by providing a place for community building and resources to navigate institutional structures. Rooted in the framework of intersectionality, Chris always strives to create spaces where students can celebrate their identities. Outside of work, Chris enjoys traveling and finding speakeasies with his husband, running marathons, and keeping up with the political drama in D.C.
Please join me in welcoming Chris to Tufts.
Best wishes,
Ellise LaMotte
Associate Dean of Student Diversity, Inclusion and Success for AS&E
