Kimberly Cantu Answers the Call for Extraordinary Customer Service
Kimberly Cantu (she/her) went above and beyond for a customer who left behind their cell phone:
"Dollar's customer service was amazing. I was in the airport and realized I lost my cell phone. I reported it to the PDX Lost and Found, then left with my sister. I planned to come back the following day to rent a car from Dollar.
The next morning, my husband received a call at home in Alaska from the PDX Lost and Found informing him that they had my phone. He then called the Dollar office to let them know I had plans to rent a car that day to hopefully help connect me and my phone.
Since I hadn’t yet made a reservation, there was nothing to attach to a message, but they said they would watch for me to arrive. Kimberly met me where the vehicles were parked and said they’d been watching for me to let me know my phone had been found and where I could pick it up. Thank you to Kimberly and the Dollar staff."

What's New with PDX Next: North Bypass Work, Overhead and Welding Work in the Ticket Lobby
North Bypass: Expect work in the north bypass starting today through Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Teams will be working on the flooring to level off some sections, and you may see barriers blocking off the work areas, hear noise from the equipment and smell odors from the carpet adhering process.
Overhead Ticket Lobby Work: While crews work overhead now through Thursday, Feb. 23, there may be a few impacts to the ticket lobby, including blocked access to the central ticket lobby Ready Station cash-to-card machine. Two other cash-to-card machines are available on either side of the ticket lobby. Additionally, spotters will be present at the exterior turnstile doors to help direct foot traffic while work is taking place.
Welding Ticket Lobby Work: Now through Tuesday Feb. 21, seismic welding and bracing is happening in the central ticket lobby from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Work is performed from a scissor lift with stanchions and a spotter below. As they move around the lobby, their work area may impact the queuing space for some south-central ticket counters. Depending on passenger volume, the south elevator will close on Monday, Feb. 20, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PDX Gets a Taqueria: Q&A With Cha Cha Cha’s Javier Hurtado
In 2001, Javier Hurtado opened his first restaurant near Portland State University, which he graduated from just a few years before. Javier grew up in the food industry in Cuernavaca, Mexico – his father was a butcher, his mother owned her own restaurant and the family owned a farm. Though he studied finance at PSU, Javier soon realized that making great food wasn’t just his heritage: It was his calling. Since then, Cha! Cha! Cha! has grown from one restaurant to an independently owned chain of taquerias specializing in Mexican food made with local, sustainably sourced ingredients. In early January, Javier opened Cha Cha Cha’s newest location across from Gate D5. We asked him for his thoughts on what to order, and he shared a hot tip for employees who want to pick up burritos, salads or bowls on the go.

TriMet’s MAX Red Line Project Enters Second Phase of Work
Construction on TriMet's A Better Red MAX Extension and Reliability Project has reached a major milestone: it is now more than halfway complete and entering the second phase of work on time and on budget. The A Better Red project will enhance the flow of train traffic with the addition of a second track near the Gateway Transit Center and PDX. A new station will also be dedicated to westbound MAX Red Line service: the Gateway North station, located about 500 feet north of the existing transit center. TriMet expects that the additional track and the new station will improve schedule reliability for the entire MAX system and should be complete in 2024.
