SHOES: ANATOMY, IDENTITY, MAGIC IS NOW OPEN!
This exhibition explores our physical, social, and psychological relationship with footwear. Curated by Dr. Valerie Steele, MFIT director and chief curator, and Colleen Hill, curator of costume and accessories, Shoes: Anatomy, Identity, Magic features more than 300 of the 5,000 pairs of shoes, boots, sandals, and sneakers in the museum's permanent collection, aka "the closet."

MARIA GRAZIA CHIURI RECEIVES 2022 COUTURE COUNCIL AWARD FOR ARTISTRY OF FASHION
The Couture Council of The Museum at FIT honored Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of women's haute couture, ready-to-wear, and accessories collections for Dior, with the 2022 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion on September 7.

Dior + Balenciaga: The Kings of Couture and Their Legacies |

Join MFIT deputy director Patricia Mears for a walk-through of the exhibition that she curated, Dior + Balenciaga: The Kings of Couture and Their Legacies. Featuring objects drawn solely from The Museum at FIT's permanent collection, this exhibition is the first to juxtapose the work of these legendary designers.

| Symposium: ¡Moda Hoy! Latin American and Latinx Fashion |
Friday, October 7 from 10:00am - 5:00pm | FREE
The symposium ¡Moda Hoy! Latin American and Latinx Fashion provides an opportunity for museum curators Tanya Melendez-Escalante and Melissa Marra-Alvarez to engage with the general public and the academic community in preparation for the upcoming exhibition of the same title slated to open in spring of 2023. By exploring the work of fashion designers of Latin American heritage, the symposium will shed new light on Latin American and Latinx fashion. Topics favored by these designers include politics, sustainability, art, Indigenous heritage, gender, and popular culture.

CURRENT | SHOES: ANATOMY, IDENTITY, MAGIC September 1 - December 31, 2022
The museum's earliest shoes date from the 17th century (a pair of high-heeled men's shoes). The most recent are spectacular 21st-century footwear. This exhibition highlights more than 300 pairs of shoes from the museum's permanent collection of 5,000 shoes. Labels featured include Alaïa, Manolo Blahník, Chanel, Ferragamo, Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Noritaka Tatehana, Iris van Herpen, and Roger Vivier, among others. Learn more.

CURRENT | DIOR + BALENCIAGA: THE KINGS OF COUTURE AND THEIR LEGACIES June 1, 2022 - November 6, 2022
This exhibition features fashions by Christian Dior (1905-1957) and Cristobal Balenciaga (1895-1972), the two most important couturiers of the mid-twentieth century. Their backgrounds and working methodologies were markedly different, yet Dior and Balenciaga concurrently produced fashions that captured the era's hunger for luxury and elegance. Learn more.

UPCOMING | CRAFTING CHANGE September 17 - October 16, 2022
The work of FIT alumni and faculty takes center stage in the exhibition Crafting Change. Organized by the Textile/Surface Design Department in conjunction with New York Textile Month, the works featured in Crafting Change use long-established techniques in a modern context to highlight the potential for promoting connection, community, and wellbeing through creating textiles. These works explore the potential for art to promote connection with ourselves and others and how the tactility of textiles can provide balance to time spent in the digital realm.

UPCOMING | DESIGNING WOMEN: FASHION CREATORS AND THEIR INTERIORS November 30, 2022 – May 14, 2023
Modern female fashion designers ardently incorporated interior decoration into their professional and personal lives. This is the first exhibition to explore the connection between these disciplines. Approximately 70 garments from MFIT’s permanent collection will be on view alongside photographic images of the most compelling interiors created for leading female fashion designers from the 1890s to the 1970s. UPCOMING | FRESH, FLY, AND FABULOUS: FIFTY YEARS OF HIP HOP STYLE February 8 - April 23, 2023
Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip hop by examining the roots and history of hip hop fashion from its inception to the present time. This exhibition will explore themes such as the transition of hip hop from the 'hood to the runway, luxury and designer influence, the impact of hip hop celebrities on the fashion industry, and the growth of hip hop style as an international phenomenon. BALENCIAGA'S WINTER 2022 RUNWAY TRASH POUCH COULD BE YOURS FOR $1,790 USD
Balenciaga is selling a handbag "inspired by a garbage bag." Made from premium calfskin leather, the "Trash Pouch" debuted in Paris earlier this year. "I couldn’t miss an opportunity to make the most expensive trash bag in the world, because who doesn’t love a fashion scandal?" said Balenciaga's creative director Demna.
PATRICK KELLY'S RADICAL ‘RUNWAY OF LOVE’
The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA is hosting an exhibition on Patrick Kelly, the effervescent Black American designer whose fashions pushed racial and cultural boundaries, asserted Black empowerment, and were rooted in expressions of love and joy.
