Museum Receives Ohio Humanities Grant
The Ohio Humanities Council has awarded us a quarterly grant to conduct and archive the stories of working women in Mahoning County.
Our grant runs from December 2022 through November 2023. We are looking to interview sixty women in the area who have worked outside the home. We want to learn what your work experiences were like and how you balanced work and family life. Your experiences, whether positive, negative, or a bit of both will be compared and contrasted with many of the challenges that working people have been expressing recently—such as lack of flexible work hours, child care/elder care needs, discrimination, harassment, union representation, equitable treatment, long-hours, etc.
We plan to hold intergenerational workshops and have women of all ages discuss some of the issues they’ve dealt with and see how they compare with common complaints and challenges that face women in the work place today. We will have a preliminary presentation of our findings in March during Women’s History month. In September we will hold an exhibit opening and presentation of our findings. In October we will hold two workshops showing attendees how to conduct oral history interviews and will have our final presentation of all findings in November of 2023.
