Student Scholars Day is a student and faculty-run event. In order to have a successful and meaningful Student Scholars Day, more than 100 volunteers are needed to make it happen. Similar to a conference, it is a day that celebrates student research and creative endeavors. Throughout the day, poster presentations, oral presentations, creative displays, and dance performances will showcase the many forms of scholarship that students have done over the course of the year. Please consider volunteering for one or more two-hour time blocks.

Panel Discussion: Artificial Intelligence in Research, Friday, March 28th

Mark your calendars! The Responsible Conduct of Research Advisory Committee will be hosting a panel discussion on Friday, March 28th, 10-11:15 am on Zoom, to discuss AI in research. Faculty panelists from the College of Computing, Department of Philosophy, and the Department of Writing and Digital Studies Program will be discussing practical uses of AI in research and ethical issues related to its use. This discussion will be geared for faculty, staff, and students. Additional information will be released soon.

Conflicts of Interest and Commitment (COI/COC) Disclosure Forms Reminder

As a reminder, COI/COC forms filed with the ORCI are to be updated:

1) annually for as long as you have a pending or active externally-funded submission or award with the Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence (including the Office of Sponsored Programs and Technology Commercialization Office), and

2) within 30 days of the discovery or acquisition of a new or increased COI/COC.

Compliance Corner

Q: I have old forms in OneAegis (f.k.a. IRBManager) that I no longer need. Is there a way to delete these? 

A: Yes. If the form hasn’t been submitted yet, the user can delete it from the system. From the OneAegis dashboard, select the “xForms” tab and the “Unsubmitted” filter button right below the tabs. Then, hover your mouse over the white box below the name of the form you want to delete, and a red “x” will appear in the upper-right corner of the white box. Click on this “x” to delete the form. Forms that have been submitted (found under “Forms Awaiting Attention” on the OneAegis dashboard) cannot be deleted by the user. Please contact the ORCI if you’d like to have any previously submitted form deleted.

Tips from your Office of Sponsored Programs

Are you thinking about applying for a grant in 2025? We have two pieces of advice to help ease the process:

First: contact your Grants and Contracts Specialist early; we can help identify funding opportunities, provide timelines and templates, and we'll be instrumental in developing your budget.

Second: talk to your unit head and dean and let them know what you're working on. This is especially important if you're thinking about budgeting for a teaching release, need to request PI status (if you aren't tenure-track faculty), or need to coordinate any hires or other details.

Executive Orders Impacting Federally-Funded Projects

In recent days, the Trump administration has issued several Executive Orders that have resulted in project-specific suspensions, stop work orders and terminations from federal agencies and sponsors. As federal agencies and sponsors make changes or notify us of updates to specific research projects, GVSU's Office of Sponsored Programs will keep you informed with guidance, updates, and relevant resources to help you navigate these changes.

Grant Opportunity from the Campbell Foundation

The Kenneth H Campbell Foundation for Neurological Research has opened their 2025-2027 grant program, with a deadline of noon on April 7, 2025. The foundation supports projects in the areas of medical, neurological, and nerve, muscle, and bone research. Establishing University-Industry Partnerships Workshop

On May 13 and 14, 2025, TCO will be hosting an interactive, informative, and educational workshop on Establishing University-Industry Partnerships. This workshop is part of GVSU’s NSF EPIIC award, and includes a $500 participation stipend, and another opportunity for a $500 proposal writing stipend. The workshop will focus on the Why, the What and the How of establishing valuable partnerships to advance faculty research and student engagement. To apply, complete this form.
