| Making time for time management
No matter what your goals are, time management will help you achieve them. With passion and ambition at the heart of any research career, the ability to create boundaries around what you can accomplish in a day is actually one of the hardest skills to master. And yet it is essential both for your schedule and your wellbeing.
Professor Anne Marie Thow, who works in food systems and nutrition policy at the Leeder Centre for Health Policy and Economics, has learned when to put the work down, especially with young children at home. With international collaborations that have her frequently on the phone overseas during the week, she ensures she doesn't work weekends. “One thing I have done is define when I don’t work,” she says. “Work does expand to fill the time.”
From the Pareto Principle to the Pomodoro Technique, there are plenty of strategies you can use to reduce time pressure and heighten productivity. Learn about them - and how Professor Thow and Associate Professor Gareth Bryant manage their time - on the Researcher Development Hub.
