More than 4,500 undergraduates have registered for Summer Session, taking advantage of flexible 4‑week and 8‑week sessions and online course options that make it easy to balance academics with work, internships, research, or travel. Summer’s per‑credit‑hour tuition also allows students to enroll in just one course and still make meaningful academic progress.
|
Since 2018 the Accelerate Your Success program has helped over 1,300 students take advantage of summer to achieve their academic goals. This program provides a $2,300 scholarship to eligible students who enroll in at least 5 credit hours in the summer. Most students are also able to combine this award with financial aid.
We received over 1,200 applications and have notified all applicants if they have been accepted for the award or waitlisted.

Summer Edge is UIC’s distinctive academic recovery program, now entering its fourth year. This scholarship program offers undergraduates a tuition‑free opportunity to retake key courses while benefiting from wrap‑around academic support. Summer Edge 2026 will include the following courses: CHEM 122, CHEM 124, CHEM 232, MATH 121, MATH 180, MATH 181, and ENGL 161.

UIC’s Summer College is a pre-college program designed to help rising high school students explore academic interests, build college readiness skills, and experience campus life at UIC. Through engaging courses, workshops, and seminars taught by UIC faculty and staff, participants gain exposure to college-level learning across a variety of subject areas while strengthening critical thinking, communication, and independence. The program also fosters a supportive community, providing students a valuable head start as they prepare for their transition to higher education.

Seamless Transfer Pathways from Chicago Public Schools to City Colleges of Chicago to UIC |

Following its launch in March, UIC continues to advance the next phase of the Chicago Roadmap alongside Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), strengthening transfer pathways for CPS and CCC students. Supported by two years of new philanthropic funding, Roadmap 2.0 focuses on reducing credit loss, improving affordability, and boosting timely bachelor’s degree completion. Key efforts include expanding guaranteed admission, publishing pathways for 15 UIC majors, developing an interactive Degree Planning Portal, aligning advising across institutions, and enhancing student success programs.

Chicago Roadmap 2.0 Team-Based Challenge |
UIC partnered with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) to host a Health Science Team‑Based Challenge (TBC) for early college students enrolled in dual credit health science pathways. Hosted through Chicago Roadmap 2.0, this event marked the first TBC under the initiative and exemplified our shared commitment to creating seamless, credit‑preserving pathways from CPS to CCC to UIC.
The challenge engaged 35 students from Little Village Lawndale High School and D.H. Williams Medical Prep High School in a hands‑on, work‑based learning experience facilitated by UIC College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) faculty and students. Led by Dr. Jennifer Wescott, Interim Executive Director of the Research Hub, and the Rehabilitation Sciences team, students applied a person‑centered approach to develop solutions supporting individuals with disabilities in safely returning to daily activities, such as cooking. Through collaboration, mentorship, and real‑world problem solving, students demonstrated key healthcare competencies while gaining insight into postsecondary pathways and careers in the health sciences. We are grateful to our CPS and CCC partners for their continued collaboration and to UIC AHS for inspiring the next generation of health science professionals.

Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Updates |
|
|
|
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has implemented revised accreditation criteria effective September 1, 2025. The updated framework adopts a mission‑reflective approach, requiring institutions to show how they meet four streamlined criteria through the lens of their mission. The revisions also merge the former Criteria 3 and 4 into a new unified criterion, “Teaching and Learning for Student Success.” Overall, the updates place stronger emphasis on student success and continuous improvement across curricular and co‑curricular programs.

Dr. Jennifer Wescott has been appointed as the Interim Executive Director of the Undergraduate Research Hub. A Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Program in Rehabilitation Sciences. Dr. Wescott brings a deep commitment to student success, equity, and mentorship to the role. In this interim position, she will lead the Hub’s mission to connect undergraduate students across all disciplines with faculty mentorship and impactful research opportunities.
