Is winter over yet? Sigh…
Happy Wednesday, everyone, and another non-Monday edition of our Spring, 2026, CHDCM newsletter! I hope that you all survived the blizzard and crazy snow that we received these past few days…and the additional amount that’s been falling this morning. I take some comfort in the old saying that if March comes in like a lion, it’ll go out like a lamb….better weather truly will be on the way, at least I hope!
Beyond digging out of the snow, this Dean’s newsletter finds our College active, as always! Since our last newsletter, we’ve hosted another Undergraduate Open House, as well as a Graduate Open House, so our dedicated faculty, student ambassadors, graduate assistants, and administrators have welcomed hundreds of prospective Pirates and helped spread the good word about our amazing academic and co-curricular programs. Thanks to everyone who has helped represent and celebrate our community!
But, as we all know, there is something else happening right now….midterms! I wish everyone well as they finish papers, projects and exams—or grade those papers, projects, and exams—and would just encourage all members of the CHDCM community, as always, to practice self-care in these hectic times. I know that Spring Break arrives at the end of this week, but as we navigate the exams that separate now from then, make sure that you’re taking time for self-care. These times of year can be taxing on mental health, so please don’t forget the support and resources that are available from the University: Students can find dedicated resources through Seton Hall’s Counseling and Psychological Services, available at (973) 761-9500. Campus Ministry is likewise available at (973) 761-9545. Employees may use the Employee Assistance Program by calling (877) 622-4327.
With that, I invite you to read on, and enjoy the good news and shout outs from our CHDCM community. I wish you well for midterms, followed by a wonderful, restorative—and, hopefully, warmer—Spring Break!

Congratulations to Dr. Jess Rauchberg, whose latest essay on platform authoritarianism and creator economies has been published in Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies! In the piece, she conceptualizes platform authoritarianism as the digital mediation and mobilization of authoritarian ideals within creative labor, challenging the self-optimizing rhetoric of aspiration in creator cultures and examining how offline politics seep into digital publics. Pre-prints are available online.

Center for Sports Media Partners with Fox University for World Cup Campaign
The Center for Sports Media, in collaboration with the Department of Communication, Media and the Arts, is again participating in the Fox University program. Last year, a group of students produced a feature on the new men’s basketball practice facility. This year, Ralph Vacchiano’s Sports Reporting Class--with the help of Ernie Knewitz, a CHDCM alum and longtime Johnson & Johnson--is working on an engagement campaign for Fox’s coverage of the World Cup this summer. This is another excellent opportunity for our students, who will present to Fox executives on campus at the end of April. Stay tuned for more details.
