Japanese Tea Ceremony
Colgate’s Japanese program is delighted to announce the arrival of Certified Japanese Tea Ceremony instructor Soryū Yamakawa for a two-week residency, including two tea ceremony demonstrations that are open to the public.
Friday April 5, 3:00-4:30
Sunday April 7, 3:00-4:30.
Both events will be in the Japan Center, 107 Lawrence Hall.
The residency was made possible by a grant from an ASIANetwork Embodied Learning Grant.

Brown Bag Talk on Interracial Marriage
Louise Ly, Consortium for Faculty Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, will offer a brown bag talk on "Intermarriage as the Decline of Differences? Gendered Racialized Attraction Among Whites Married to East Asians."

Japanese Speech ContestThe Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures Japan Program held its 21st Annual Japanese Speech Contest in Lawrence Hall on March 1. Seven students from Colgate University and Hamilton College at all levels of proficiency impressed the audience and the panel of expert judges with lively speeches on fairy tales, video games, autism, and learning Japanese.

Everyday Life Environmentalism Book Launch
Students, faculty, and even some family filled the cozy Asia House living room on March 25 for the launch of Professor Daisaku Yamamoto's (GEOG/ASIA) recent co-edited book, Everyday Life Environmentalism: Community Sustainability and Resilience in Asia. A lively discussion among the audience, Professor Yamamoto, and the two discussants, Emily Mitchell-Eaton (GEOG) and Aleksandr Sklyar (UNST) was followed by dinner, provided by East Sushi. Asian Studies thanks Residential Life and Asia House for helping make this event a success.
