We are excited to share that Hofstra University’s Long Island Studies Institute (LISI) was awarded a federal grant, championed by US Senator Chuck Schumer. The $459,000 federal grant will be used to digitize centuries of historic and contemporary regional materials, expanding public access to documents that tell the story of Nassau and Suffolk counties.

 

This conversion will make invaluable collections more accessible to researchers, students, educators, and the public. Thousands of photographs, letters, diaries and other primary sources from early 1700s community life to World War I era Camp Mills will be preserved and shared in new ways for generations to come.

Associate to the President for Government and Community Affairs

Hofstra recently announced the appointment of Laine Norton as senior vice president for development and alumni affairs. Norton most recently served as vice president for advancement at Ithaca College, where she was recognized for building collaborative relationships and advancing a comprehensive, data-informed fundraising strategy that resulted in increased philanthropic giving, expanded donor and alumni engagement, and significant growth of the donor pipeline. The 33rd annual march to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. kicked off along Hempstead Turnpike, co-hosted by the Village of Hempstead and Hofstra University, where King spoke in 1965. The MLK Jr. celebration continued at the Student Center Theater in the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, with a moving program of speakers and performances. Read more here.

Hofstra University’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business continues to earn national recognition, with its Online MBA program once again ranked in the top 15, at No. 14 (tied), in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings. The ranking places Zarb among the nation’s top online MBA programs and reflects the school’s continued emphasis on academic rigor, innovative online instruction, and career-focused learning for working professionals. Marking two decades since the World Summit on the Information Society set a global vision for the digital age, Gurvirender Tejay, PhD, associate professor of information systems and business analytics at Hofstra University’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business, addressed the United Nations General Assembly as one of 25 global stakeholders at the UN High-Level Meeting on WSIS+20, held December 2025 in New York City. Read more here.

A partnership between the Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) and Hofstra University’s School of Education gives preservice teachers opportunities to bring science and math learning to life for young children. Interning at LICM allows Hofstra’s aspiring teachers to work with children in grades 1 through 3 on activities that spark inquiry and scientific thinking. Read more here.

The Hofstra Cheer Team, celebrated a highly successful weekend at the 2026 Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) & Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship at the Walt Disney World Resort, competing in multiple Division I Small Coed categories. Students in grades 10-12 from the Village of Westbury and the Town of Hempstead, and My Sister’s Keeper program in Uniondale, and My Brother’s Keeper program in Hempstead, visited Hofstra’s campus for an introduction to college life. Through interactive sessions, practical simulations, and meaningful conversations with faculty, professionals, and current students, participants explored academic pathways while envisioning what their own futures could hold. Our Unfinished Revolution(s) is an exhibition presented during the U.S. Semi-quincentennial commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with Untold Stories of Revolution: A Hofstra University Initiative for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. The Hofstra University Museum of Art will offer visitors an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s history and consider its future by engaging with art that poses questions about the founding document’s historical legacy.

In 1967 Detroit, Motown music is getting the party started, and Chelle and her brother Lank are making ends meet by turning their basement into an after-hours joint. But when a mysterious woman finds her way into their lives, the siblings clash over much more than the family business.
