Wonders & Worries Newsletter - May 2016
The Wedig Family Story
“It may not be today or even tomorrow but sometime in your life you will know a family who will need Wonders & Worries. Their world will be a more beautiful and secure place because of them.”
In March 2013, John Wedig had brain surgery. The next day, he was told he had melanoma. John and his wife Diane struggled to grasp the situation themselves, let alone explain it to their teenage daughter.
Donor Highlight:
Dr. Bill Ramsdell
“As a doctor, I witness daily the anxiety, fear, and sorrow that a cancer diagnosis can bring. I have come to understand that cancer, or any serious illness, is a family disease."

Dr. Bill Ramsdell had been a practicing dermatologist in the Austin area for several years when he began to hear about Wonders & Worries from other physicians who had lent their time and talents to the organization. Bill became a Wonders & Worries donor both personally and through his business and has continued to support the organization for years since.

Businesses Giving Back

Businesses are starting in Austin every day. More and more, we are seeing businesses that want to find a way to cultivate a culture of giving back to the community amongst their employees. Giving City Austin posted a great article last month on this topic! If you are a business owner in Austin and you want to take your business to the next level with social good, consider partnering with Wonders & Worries. We’ve had companies host lip sync battle fundraisers, donate a dollar a bike for indoor cycling classes, build picnic tables for our Westlake office, sponsor one of our fundraising events, and much more. The more creative, the better, so let’s grab a cup of coffee and discuss doing good together.

Kids Giving Back!
You are never too young to learn about giving back to your community! Jackson decided that for his birthday, instead of presents for himself, he would ask his friends and family to make a donation to Wonders & Worries. Jackson gathered art supplies that we can use in our sessions. Thank you, Jackson, for setting a great example for other kids your age. We love to see kids giving back!
Superhero Puppets
One of our check-in groups created Superhero Puppets! The kids were asked to think about superpowers that their puppet could have that would help them fight off the wonders and worries. They used medical supplies such as casting material and band aides to create and decorate their superheroes. The group ended their time with going through an activity that allowed them to share their own personal best qualities.
Theraputic Tip
As the Texas summer heat and sun quickly approaches, we want to highlight that May is Melanoma Awareness Month. We asked Dr. Ramsdell to provide us with a few melanoma facts for our therapeutic tip this month.
